Hi Buzzer.
I was in Shanklin last week, that scene still looks the same apart from the building on the right it is a ghastly shade of pink.
Regards Paul.
“Is the car behind the Cortina a Sunbeam rapier ?”
My guess would be a Humber Sceptre.

I lived in the shop 3rd from the end on the left hand side in the 2nd photo, opposite Albert Royds Street from 1964 to 1968, caught the bus into Rochdale many a time from that stop.
First dash-cam?
Tea , six sugars , and a sausage and egg barm cake please love … Oh! and you can leave the teabag in but don’t stir the tea as I don’t like it too sweet .

Can you remember exactly where the Ellen Smith coach garage used to be. They must have moved years ago but I have a feeling that it might have been where that A.T.S. garage is now.
You might have to wait a bit for all that sugar Eddie.
But don’t worry, it’s on its way.

Yes, the ATS garage is on the site of the old Ellen Smith garage, I think it is still Yorkshire Street there, Halifax Road starts at the junction with Entwistle Road but I am not 100% sure on that.
Ellen Smith, or at least the name, were taken over by Rossendale Transport, now Rosso, many years ago and operate from a depot on Norman Road in Rochdale. In the late 80’s I parked my truck in their yard, not sure whether Ellen Smith’s are still part of Rosso now but still operating as a tour company
Thanks for the reply Matamoros, I thought that it was somewhere near the school but at the back of my mind the name Rothwell Street kept popping up for some reason.

Many of those scooter riders appear to be wearing the Everoak “ Corker “ helmet or similar . I recall paying three quid for one of those in the early 60s . I’ve just had a look on t’net and they appear to be going for daft money these days , 120 quid and upwards . Mind you , many would say that three quid was daft money back in 1960 .
