Containers are not bullet proof either but that’s down to the way they’re loaded. We go out to a fair few containers overturned. The last one had square bales of paper, stacked to roof height in two rows, one down each side with a big gap in the middle. First roundabout out of Teesport the load shifts and the trailer goes over.
It depends if they use a paper clamp truck to tip or unload, they have to leave a gap, but I have carried these on end without straps as that is what the customer required
With this type of bale, the load is not going anywhere, ever
Quite instructive this post, being a fridge jockey, I’ve often wondered how you would go about strapping a load down in a curtainsider. Maybe the answer is to have more trailers in trolley spec, with the side rails used for holding in roll cages?
I remember last year at M180/M18 services a curtain sider parked diagonally across parking bays ( most likely to stop someone parking next to him) who’s load was pushing the curtain out by around 4 ft, whatever it was it was heavy as it has pulled the roof in and the back doors where leaning in a lot, curtain held it though but dont think trailer was up to much after
strap everything pretty much and i dont trust loaders either went into coke the other week to get a load it was cans which are not wrapped i checks the load out the posts had not been put back and no straps left at the back they were not happy when i took it around put it on a bay and asked for a loader to take pallets of so i could get the straps out but i aint taking a trailer full of unwrapped pallets with no straps anywere
I did a job a couple of weeks ago in a 7.5t curtain sider. All the pallets were small except for 1, in the middle near the front to help with weight distribution. It was all neat looking boxes, well stacked and wrapped so i left it without strapping it down.
Got to a roundabout a few miles down the road and i feel the pallet go over before i look in the mirror and see the curtain massively bulging.
Managed to pull up somewhere safe to sort it out. Turns out whoever had loaded the pallet had put the heavy boxes on top, even tho the slightly bigger boxes were the lighter ones. (it was all rice, oats, chick peas etc)
Took me about an hour to take it all off and re-stack it
Im not totally sure strapping it would have helped anyway, those boxes on the bottom were going to get flattened no matter what, but next time might ask Mr Fork if he could load the truck in such a way that stuff is less likely to topple over in the back.

Cans out of CCE aren’t going to move in a million years.

you might think that but one night i was in sainsburys bristol waiting for notes looking out the window watching the next truck back in when he opens his curtains he has cans of coke on the whole load shot forward and each pallet was leaning onto the one in front of it so they clearly do move

If you drive like a [zb] then even a load with 300 straps on it will move. Common sense alert .

the giant paper reels shown at the top are one of my least favourite loads.i strap it the same as everyone else(internals)but i cant help thinking they wouldnt be much good if something untoward happened.when i carry these i drive it like i`ve got the queen mum in the back, god bless her
The paper reels come with their own problems such as a nail free trailer bed, totally waterproof doors and cover as well as corner boards or a ban on straps, we also had to use lining paper, and antiskid matting.
Coca Cola loads do move and isn’t it coca cola policy to strap back two pallets as well as the front two? Loads of shot loads were stacked in Irlams warehousing bit at Normanton over the years (non by me I may add lol)

WADR if you have a CCE load shift then you are driving like a [ZB].
