Induction Monday. Not bad that 2 weeks short of 14 months since interview
I said hang on in there !! Seriously at the induction ask them what the hell was going on .
Nice one, I’m still enjoying it, see ya Monday
It’s not a permanent/full time job on offer this time, it’s TEMPORARY!
Not bad, waiting 13 months for a possibly ongoing 13 week contract.
Mate of mine was doing Asda at Washington through agency, promised him the world and kept putting back his start date…still waiting, recently went on the buses…

… just don’t mention the words ’ bellend’ or ’ knobhead’ when you ask them halewood. [emoji6] . Welcome aboard.
I just applied online, had to do an online test with 48 questions which seemed all about home delivery. Seemed a bit odd for an application for a lorry driver.

It’s a bit of a general personality test, I passed it so I’m sure anyone else can too.
I’m a social misfit so I could be ■■■■■■. Jobs at your DC.

See ya
Morning! Sorry to bump an old post.
But was wondering what ASDA is like to work for these days. Particularly interested if anyone has experience of the Bedford RDC pay/hours/overtime etc…
Also I never see any jobs advertised on their recruitment page except home delivery. Do they use an agency as an entry point or is there a separate webpage for HGV jobs?
Cheers in advance!
Hgv jobs are advertised on the asda.jobs site with the rest. Not sure who the agency are that supply Bedford. M4 recruitment do Didcot and they may sort Bedford too (I’ll ask a Bedford when I see one next). If you are on agency there’s no guarantee of straight to full time, have to apply same as everyone else but does help if they know you and get the job done well.
Again, cant comment on Bedford for moral/conditions but Didcot has a LOT of drivers over the 10yr service mark and plenty on for 20-25 service. Pretty much waiting for people to retire before they recruit. We do 2 different working patterns, 5x9hrs or 4x11.25 hrs to make 45hr basic week. 5/4 out of 7 and expect to work about 60% weekends. Work week is Sunday-Saturday. Enhancements on hourly rate for any “late hours” (14-00 to 22.00) and night hours (22.00-06.00) Overtime enhancement on top after 45hrs. Pay is 4 Weekly. Not sure what Bedford are on and I remember there was something about a possible lower rate for new starters for a probation period in the last pay negotiations, not sure if that went through or not. Suffice to say 35k+ is easily achievable on days without breaking much sweat.
Work is fairly easy, Bedford is chilled/frozen so you are pushing cages around, lots of scissor lifts and dock levellers with a sprinkle of tail lift stuff. Stores are pretty easy to get in, not too much blind siding through carparks with most yards being seperate entrances and a decent turning circle. They do some petrol forecourt shops too but thats only a couple of cages along with the main store. All the rubbish goes back on Bedford so back to the ASU after. Back on bay and they pull it off. Decent running times and no pressure means you dont have to tear about.
Kit is good, Bedford are running a lot of new Scanias and I think there may be a sprinkle of the old Volvos left but not sure. If its broke it doesnt go out, simple as that. No pressure to take anything dodgy out.

I work out of Avonmouth cdc and Fuzrat sumned it up pretty well, drivers jobs are advertised on the web site but they don’t recruit too often, our depot are now just about to start an apprenticeship scheme where they take some reliable warehouse bods on and put them through their test and put them with a driver for a few weeks to get them up to speed.
Can’t comment on Bedford pay but it’ll be good for the area and t’s and c’s will be good along with a great sharesave too and lots of holiday/lieu days. I’d try getting in through the agency if you can. I myself am not looking for any other employment and at 53 hopefully it’ll see me out, I do 4 x 11.25 hrs a week but there’s o/t if you want or there’s an option to decrease your hours . Good luck.

That’s me…
Out then. If I work weekends I want extra money for doing so.
Saturday and Sunday should never be classed as just days of the week.
Granted weekends arent for everybody, doesnt worry me too much though as I like my days off in the week, nice and quiet on the river for the boat.
One good thing is they do tend to keep weekends together, either off both days or work both days.
Bank Holidays if I work I get paid normal rate plus double lieu day (option of double time and single lieu day as well) so I either save them up and on the few weeks of the rota I’m on 3 weekends on the bounce I use them to get the middle weekend off or if theres something I want to go to on the weekend use them for that.
