I’ve driven a T cab scania on bulk rubbish work in London and would be happy to never drive a bonneted truck again. Prehaps. your attitude when you went to look for the jobs was the problem. If its like on here you more than likley went in and told the man his prized fleet of leyland marathons and gardner powered ERFs where piles of crap which to be fair they probably were and he should buy a fleet of bedford tm two strokes
If you were stuck on bulk rubbish or any other type of work in London I’m surprised you’d want to drive anything again I don’t even want to drive a car through the place.I did’nt go in anywhere and tell anyone that their prized fleet of whatever were piles of crap which is one of the reasons why I took on a job on the council and stuck with it for around 5 years, driving all types of old wagons because, for the millionth time I’ve said it,making a living came first and when I did eventually get on artics one of the best trucks,in my view, that I was given was’nt a TM but a 7 year old 1970’s DAF,although to be fair I’d have liked a big V8 two stroke TM on international work, who would’nt have done at the time. But there’s plenty of others like me of my era,who like me did actually work their way through a series of crap work on crap wagons but never did get those breaks which some others did, some of which did’nt have to work their way through anything like the amount of often crap uk work that we did. It’s just that you probably won’t hear from them on here because, unlike me,they probably lost interest in the job and got so disillusioned with it that they just walked away long ago.But no having reached late middle age like I have and reasonably financially secure I’m not now going to go to all the trouble and insecurity of going over to Canada etc to do what should have been an option when I was young enough to do it.For the millionth time if I bother going back on the road it’ll be on long distance European work as an owner driver, part time,as and when I want and need to do the runs, with a wagon of my own choice with no guvnor telling me what I’ll drive and how to drive it.So looking back things could have been a lot worse.Hope that explained things a bit better.
