speed limit is 60mph on the motorway, but you can also be knicked for doing 60mph because you should be limited to 56mph, and if you are doing 60mph and your limited to 56mph you can be done for not being in control of your truck because its on over runHMMNN - 1st bit is correct: Legal speed limit for vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes on UK motorways IS 60 mph…regardless of how it’s achieved (or not achieved!!!). If you are unsure of this check the Highway Code, be quick though…because it will shortly need updating:
Was told the same as Burnley at the DCPC course, If the vehicle is limited to a certain speed, such as 50 mph, and you’re doing 55, you can still be done for speeding as you’re exceeding the speed the vehicle is limited to… Again just what I was told at DCPC course
It’s safer not to believe anything you are told on a DCPC course, it’s mostly wrong.
Doesn’t matter what the speed limiter is set to, you can exceed that setting because of momentum as long as you do not exceed the limit for the road you are on. Limiter set to 50mph, you get it up to 60 on a motorway and no offence has been committed. Speed limits and and offences of exceeding them are governed by the type of road, the type of vehicle and the signs, not by whatever the speed limiter is set to. If you were doing 60 on the motorway because the speed limiter was defective and it allowed you to power the vehicle beyond the 56mph it should be set to then you have committed an offence but it’s not a speeding offence, it would be for a defective speed limiter and speeding would not be mentioned because you were not speeding on a road where the limit for a truck is 60.
