Speed Camera on A5 near Nuneaton

8wheels:
I adopt the principle that all cameras are clever and can tell what I’m driving. I always ease off for them and sail through at or just over the appropriate limit.

I’m not a 40mph stickler on singles but I just don’t want to chance it either.

+1

As far as I’m concerned the sight of a speed camera means I’m slowing to the legal speed limit, if it means holding other road users up I’m sorry but both they and I will just have to live with it.

shuttlespanker:
to be fair, that particular camera is partially hidden by overgrown trees

Although there are at least two clearly visible warning signs (no trees) on the approach…

I’ve literally just passed that camera on the way home and how you could miss it is beyond me, it’s effin huge  .

I’m surprised the motorbike lads that meet at the McDonald’s on a Tuesday night haven’t set it on fire like the last one

Ahh right you are, my mistake  . I saw someone had mentioned getting caught by the belfry camera, you actually :grimacing: ,only thing that camera is missing is a big flashing sign saying camera here.

No need to call me a thicko

got caught by that one twice in a week years ago :frowning: thought everyone new about that one by now…still, not every HGV driver knows that ‘thumbs down’ means trouble ahead

Moose:
there are several cameras in the area that are set up the same and have been for a number of years, the one outside the belfrey is another, it’s ok when you know about it to a point
there will be some do gooders on here that say dont speed but not everyone is on the hourly rate dragging the hrs out to the max, as an o/d i get a rate from a to b i dont get more for the job taking longer than needed, it’s been a long time since cameras had owt to do with saftey in my veiw

I was salaried and run to Nuneaton everyday, often quite late and was often working outside my salaried hours for free.

It’s not about hourly rates, it’s about my wage has never been that good that I can afford to pay a speeding fine and still have a liveable wage, they choose the speed limit, I stick to it.

Surely, as ‘professionals’ we should be 1 rung above the rest of the drivers, and a simple law like speed limits (or duty time to bring in another thread) should be obeyed by us - lead by example and all that■■?

Those claiming “10% +2mph is a myth” need to read ACPO policy http://www.acpo.police.uk/documents/uniformed/2013/201305-uoba-speed-enf-safer-roads.pdf then understand the vast majority of roadside camera enforcement no longer falls to the local constabulary

Therefore ACPO policy no longer applies to fixed and mobile speed cameras, it does however still apply to speed enforcement by police officers with the caveat that digression still applies.

Same here. I really don’t understand these drivers who decide to risk their livelihood by sailing past them above the legal limit for their class of vehicle solely on the assumption that “you’re allowed x% +ymph” and “ACPO guidelines ( :bulb: ) state x, y and z”. You have to be utterly utterly stupid to risk your job and licence instead of just easing off another couple of mph for no more than a few seconds.

We all know what the speed limits are for the trucks we drive? exceed them at your peril…do not whinge if you get caught.

You might think we all know the limits - but one of our drivers was recently nicked by the camera in question (Southbound A5 just before the A444 junction). He is no newbie but he genuinely believed that the posted 50mph meant that the normal 40mph for HGVs did not apply…

im almost shocked to hear of a truck driver(especially one of long standing)that is not aware that trucks on single carriagway roads have a speed limit of 40 mph??..50 on duals(unless otherwise marked) and 60 on motorways?jeez…the 40mph limit is not something new that has just been sprung on us.
maybe there is a case for cpc training to refresh the memory of some drivers who think they know it all??

yeah but the hardest thing on these single carriage 40 mph limit roads
is differenciating or realising what speed cameras
know the difference between a truck and a car
you just never know do you
thats why its safer to just do 50 and brake harshly just before the camera

 that last line is hilarious

this camera is not always active as ive been past in a lorry at 45-48mph before now but Thursday morning flash bye bye clean licence :frowning: . The worst thing is I read this post a couple of days before but it never clicked in my head it was this camera :unamused:

At least you can keep your clean licence, after completing the S172 form, you should get a COFP and an offer of a course, as the scheme is mainly nationwide now, you can take it locally.

Beware if you insure with Admiral - They load your premium if you have done a SAC, the same as having 3 points…

when I did a speed awareness course the guys running it emphasised that you do not have to inform your ins company that you have attended one as one of the benefits of taking it  …I have never informed my ins co , although I will be obliged to tell them about the 3 points I have gotten since :frowning:
