i was on one the other week, pay and do the 4 hrs mate, its not to bad, apart from car drivers not knowing the speed limits and what is and isnt a dual carriageway
same as me 36 in a 30, but you can go up to 42mph and still get the course
Curious that, si - I did one in Norwich a few months back - 38 in a 30, and my letter from Norfolk constabulary stated that 9mph (presumably meant to read as under ten percent) over was the cut off point for being offered the course.
Maybe different authorities can set their own levels/criteriaā ā ?

Most forces operate on a between 10%+2mph to 10%+6mph scale to be offered a course, so in a 30 zone that would 35-39 mph but some go a little higher and 42 in a 30 is the cut off. Where I live in Bedfordshire itās 42 in a 30.
Every force makes its own criteria and some offer courses for all speed limits while others only do so for certain ones, often only for offences in 30 and 40 zones. As far as I know no area offers a course for an offence in a 20 mph restriction.

I got done in Kings Lynn doing 37 in a 30 and did my speed awareness course 1 mile from home in Newcastle under Lyme.

I did mine there, I was offered one at Westport Lake visitors centre first but I couldnāt manage the date offered so was offered Port Vale as an alternative,I was hoping for a trial while I was there. but no luck.
Speed awareness course did me no favours. As you know women are experts in everything and since she did the course she has got worse. Now when I drive she sets the sat nav up facing her and gives me a running commentary on my speed. 1 mph over the limit , ie 61 on a single lane section of A47 , itās like a major crime. So like I say done me no favours.
Sunnydevon:
I must have been lucky then I got offered the course after getting caught at 97 on motorway.
Was a few years ago tho.
You were indeed lucky. Current ACPO guidelines for 70mph limits are Fixed Penalty above 79mph (with the option, in suitable cases, of a speed awareness course up to 86mph) and court summons for any speed over 96mph.
Never been on one and donāt plan on going any time soon, but must be very easy to attend now its just 4 hours and only classroom based. Used to be a full day, 1/2 day in the classroom, 1/2 out in a car with a Driving Instructor with 3 of you taking turns to drive.
I think that was a good thing as most drivers never bother to get their driving assessed ever again after the day they pass their test.
My sister was done a few years ago then attended one of the courses to keep her licence clean. About 12 months later she was caught speeding again and was offered the course again!! The only difference from the first time was that she now lived at a different address since the first course.
So after doing one of these courses, it might be beneficial to change your address on your licence (to your parents address or wherever), then if you are unfortunate enough to get caught speeding again within 3 years of attending the course, you may just get offered another one. After 3 years pass by, simply change it back again! Just a thought.

as soon as summons comes in,you can always try thisā¦send away for duplicate licence asap ā¦get done, send original licence back to be stampedā¦if as and when a cpl months later swansea write and tell you that you sent in the wrong licence and now want your valid licence sent back to them,( they may or may not),then do so,simultaniously send away for another duplicate licence, same address or at your grannys etc.wait till you get the new one,and take your pick as to what one you send backā¦you might end up with a non valid piece of paper, but it wont show your endosements on it if you have to show it for a jobā¦being classic dvla goverment beancounters, then one department has no idea what the other department is doing, hence it has worked previously which can be handy if you need to show a clean(er) breif.keep the valid one for plod, and the clean one for whoever else it may impressā¦not exactly the done thing, but where theres a will?? dvla arnt plod, they just go through their myopic existance passing the buck, and clearing their desk.its unlikely someone from welsh wales will pry, dig,or otherwise give themself more workā¦plus at the end of the day, just say you must have found the old licence when you were looking for the new one to send them(or vise versa) as the case may beā¦(fortunately for me,theres never been a case sofar)ā¦
