Spanish general strike

Spain has been lining it self up for a financial meltdown ever since Franco died basically.
The moment Franco was gone they voted for successive socialist governments who as always came up with a lot of costly ideas and to pay for them Barreiros was sold to Renault, Pegaso eventually became Iveco, Seat became Volkswagen thus creating immediate investment for the old factories and linng the governments coffers at the same time. A large amount of this money eventually disappeared in a series of property and corruption scandals.
The road system needed modernising this was done with EU money and there was an immediate scramble to build holiday homes for pensioners and thousands of hotels for the annual lemming invasion, eventually you reach the stage where theres nowt else left to build add to this the fact that several VAT hikes imposed by Brussels over the last few years have caused the cost of living to rise quite steeply while at the same time pay rises have been non existent…
Younger people wanting to get on the property ladder find this impossible due to the wages being cut so much by ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT workers who are not paying taxes working in the black economy that the younger Spaniards cannot afford to buy their own homes which means that there is again less demand to build them.

Pretty much the same as the UK then. Wages here are being pushed down by both legal and illegal immigration. You have to say though that Spain pushed the property game to the extreme. I can remember being astonished that a 2 bed apartment in Estepona cost more than one in outer London. I wonder how a person starting out now in the UK will ever be able to buy a property unless prices fall a lot more. I think the last thing Spain needs at the moment is to build more homes. They reckon there are about a million new unsold ones on the market now.

One day strikes. Day off with pay. 5 fiestas (bank holidays) before christmas. Lifes not that bad in Spain. There are two sides to every story.

That is not a Fiesta, it is, was a Seat.

Anglo Bank Toxic

At least the Irish had the sense to use a scrap vehicle for their (more effective and less predictable) protest, unlike the Spanish who don’t seem to realise that it is they who are going to pay the cost of replacing that Police car
