Hello Hanzon If you have any photos that they took we would all love to see them. Eddie.

Another few. Eddie.

Aye Eddie I remember Moodies of Bishopbriggs, They were Perkins Engine Agents, I recall being in Glasgow when I was driving TVK 123,a 4 wheeler Bedford flat when the water pump bearing collapsed, I managed to get it into their depot & asked if they could fix it, The first words were how are you going to pay for this, Its needs a new water pump, And before I could answer the gaffer said, I dont want your spare wheel in lue of payment & I dont want your driving licence in good faith of you coming back with the money, I have a drawer full of them, So I replied I will pay you now before you do the job, He replied OK Gordy show me the colour of your money, So I said how much would it be for the replacement pump, I was lucky I had the £8.10s in my wallet, This was 1959, But it got me going back on the road, I allways had about a tenner in my wallet for emergencies, For Instance having to leave the old motor & get the train home, This was what one of the old timmers told me when I first started on long distance work in the 50s, Allways have plan B to get back home, Happy days Eh Eddie, Regards Larry.

Aye Larry typical Glesca lad he wasny going to be caught out, I always tried to make sure I had enough to cover most o the snags that cropped up to. Eddie.

like the Gateside commercials ad farther back, would that be from the Bob Bell days

Hi Eddie , seeing the Gateside Commercials advert brings back painfull memories, I had a 304 Dodge with a 6.354 Perkins in it, a great motor when it was right but I was lucky if it managed a week withoutbreaking something, dynamo brackets oil pipes, injector pipes head gaskets etc, I think I was Gateside’s best customer in1964 to 66 as the zb thing was never out of their garage. It was run by a guy call Sandy Shearer I think. I last saw it in a field just outside Garlieston.

Hi Davyboy I would say Bob would be there then he retired from Nivens a while back a top man.

Gerald. Wilson of Auchinleck had a Spanish Dodge with a V6 ■■■■■■■ and it’s party trick was throwing the flywheel through the bell housing regularly, the chap that drove it sayed he spent more time getting lifts back than he did driving it. Eddie.

Murdoch of Castle Douglas

That load of timber ain’t all it seems!

As I am not up that often in West Scotland which is the missus home area I dont know the local firms but all I ever see on the way to Largs up the coastroad is Gogar logistics truck coming from the quayside near the powerstation or perhaps even from the powerstation ?..what do they do as there are bloody lots of them.

john fitzpatrick gatehouse of fleet.

Hi captmarvel, Your photos of J. Fitzpatrick Bedford etc and batching plant is a blast from the past, am I right in thinking they had a sandpit up the Anwoth road from Gatehouse. If I have got this right then I used to deliver loads of bagged cement from Blue Circle at Whitehaven with my ERF 66GX six wheeler circa 1970 to 72. I remember there was a blue LAD cabbed Dodge 304 lying derelict in the yard ex Tom Garner (husband of Margaret and father of Neil i e M&N Garner operating today) of Abbey Town ■■■■■■■■ I had completely forgotten about this company until seeing your photographs, thanks for posting.
