This photo was taken in the council yard in Lockerbie in the 80s.Glass Glover Distribution used to change over in there on both days and nights with our Newbridge drivers. The driver is Kevin Coley and this was the Littlewoods contract and the Scania was reg no. K500 GGD,being the 500th Scania that MFS - part of Glass Glover Distribution - bought. Not sure who owned the tipper in the background, the yard was worse than the Coatesgate cafe lorry park.

I believe that Glass Glover were bought by Wincanton. Multiple Fruit Supplies ā€œMFSā€ easy to get confused with MRS!

Still looking for pics. In the meantime hereā€™s a clip of longish story I picked up on the net about a guy and some of his bus and van driving days. This little piece I put aside and it may trigger memories and comment from others on here. To think on how you would be tripping over firms like this as you went about and now how little we have in the way of stories and photos. Everybody remembers carriers, possibly even used their services, but none of us it seems stood long enough to snap one or two. Probably saving the film for the next big shiny swede  ā€¦jim

Hi Folks,
Just a bit of info on the bus,It was/is a 1950 Bedford OB Duple bodied
29 seater coach registered in Anglesey North Wales No ACC 629.
Blueband Motors sold it to Fred Bibby & Son of Ingleton (now Bibbys of Ingleton)
in late 70s.It is still owned by them and has always had a full psv mot every december,
I fitted a ex army recon engine a few !! years ago but the rest of the vehicle is more or less original
I will post a photo later.
Cheers Malc.

Hi George, great stuff still canā€™t place the Annandale bitty but Hislop for sure, 4 wheel Atki early days as I recall. It was suggested that Annandale were Gretna based? but it was Gretna Transport Ltd that hogged that little town as far as I was aware.
Was it Hislops that had some arrangement with the Co-operative running from Beattock.

Ivā€™e for many years loved being in and around the town ever since, as a very young teen, the Western Scottish overnight London coaches pulled in for refreshments for the mums and kids, while the two man crew raced the dads in a headlong fight into the Black Bull  Time was limited you understand.Even now it brings a smile of pleasure thinking of those journeys that had me arriving in Victoria with eyes dangling like a boxer dogs wotsits because Iā€™d spend the night soaking in all around me as all the old buggers on here were trunking or ā€œHoolitingā€ā€¦jim

Not to sure if it was the Hislops . I have a soft touch for Lockerbie having lived in the area, unfortunately it has become too famous.
