Everyone, once again great content all round. Andrew, the pic’s of Porthcawl carnival stirs up some memories. For years at Rhymney (heads of the valley) my father, and later my cousin and myself had vehicles in the procession. Back in 1984 I drove an F86 with 33ft trailer, and were lucky enough to take 1st place. It was always a good day out,and a laugh. You can’t beat friendly competition.
Cheers Paul

Hi Andrew & Paul for all the stick our industry gets about damage to the roads, pollution ect.its always a pleasure to see that over the years hundreds of hauliers have supplied vehicles F.O.C. and the drivers have given their time to make all these carnivals and processions extra special ! there has been a torchlight procession in Kendal since 1969 every September and during the 70s,80s,& 90s my firm had always about 18/20 artics in the parade it used to an absolute bloody nightmare for our traffic office as the various clubs, schools & customers wanted their Tautliner up to 2/3 days before the Friday night ! There was only one organisation we (I) ever turned down and that was Friends of The Earth as they would have put us out of business at the drop of a hat !! But I found out later the lads in the traffic office were only winding me up as they had already told the a*******s that they still wanted a job the following morning !! We did once have a local mouthpiece say that we were on £200 trailer and the drivers were on £50 in the hand which of course was nonsense but later on that night three of our drivers caught up with this cretin and dangled him over the bridge opposite the pub and asked him to repeat the allegation , they reckon he could be heard screaming at the top of Shap Fell !!
Hi Bewick,
Now I know which outfit they based the film " The Wild Bunch " on.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave hows tricks !! Yep we sure had a loyal bunch of lads! Funnily enough the wife and I used to go into the same boozer as this guy and after the incident he always kept his distance and sort of looked at me a bit queasy like but I never let on that I knew what happened for obvious reasons but believe me it happened !! Cheers Bewick.

The driver must have got the red card, but he did keep it clean underneath fair play to him.

Hi Bewick,
As it say’s on my signature I’m still breathing, but also wheezing with the lergy, just been to the sawbones and spread the germs, keep him busy over christmas. As you said, sounds as if you had a good bunch who stood by one another, sadly something that doesn’t happen much these days. Same this way with the carnivals,a lot of hauliers over the years gave time and vehicles to support these events, something which the anti lorry brigade choose to overlook.Anyway its the season of goodwill,I’ll put the soapbox away until the humbug has gone.
Cheers Dave.

More like myxamatosis Bewick, eye’s like ■■■■■■■■■ in the snow, had the swine flu jab, never affected me,it did my other half, her arm swelled up and made her feel ill. But no worries, nothing that a squirt of wd40 won’t cure.
Cheers Dave.
Hi Dave a bottle of dark rum works for me if it don’t cure it the aches don’t feel as bad
here’s one of british steel’s marathons, seen in the abbey during the mid 80’s.
roger brooks from porthcawl ran this left hand drive 111.these days they are a valuable classic truck.she was a dutch spec. 6 wheeler seen loade with flat steel for antwerp on a gap forwarding flat.
my mate martyn potter who owns m.p. services worked extensivley on this 111 including an engine change.
one of jr’s 301 sed. atki’s,taken in 1985.the driver reversed onto soft ground with 25 tonne of welsh slate on,it sank quickly…two double drive fodens and 3 hours later it was out.
the next few images are dedicated to the memory of a man who sadly left us three years ago today.sid evans to me was an honest hard working man.when i first new him in the mid-70’s he took me all over the place in his j&m f88.i was only 9 years of age then and i look back at those wonderful days now with such joy.his son philip and i have become great friends after we first met all those years ago in the cab of stg 993m.years later philip a.k.a. stan was best man at my wedding and took me to get married in my f16. just over 1 year later,i had the honour of taking sid on what would be his last ever trip.r.i.p. sid mate.
