South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

the next batch were taken around 1988 when keedwell was on the steel out of the abbey.

those 29 merc’s were gutless, joint’s had several of them, god did they die at the first sight of a bank! and there’s plenty of them in south wales.

all show and no go!

well andrew it has taken me ages to do this, so hope it works out…

last one of keedwell’s for now, grahame’s 142 seen here in 1988 when fairly new, over the last 21 years this truck has had many things done to it.including topline cab and many more axles etc etc etc etc.

full marks tony mate, that b reg. must have been penllyne’s 1st ever sleeper cab 8 wheeler.

Hello,I found this old clipping when Joints sold up…over 10 years ago, dont seem that long. :frowning:

Cheers Bubbs

Welcome back Tony. Andrew, great pics of Keedwalls and M c Donalds. I used to have regular dealings with W.P.S. Bridgend.on village farm ind este, opposite Keedwells and a couple of buildings north of M c Donalds yard. Those 16/1729s and 16/1733s were V6s,and as you say were gutless with a load on their back.
I ran two 2035 twin steers with V8 s and EPS on E plates, they were not the fastest, and would drink the juice if abused, but with the bigger motor and 16 speed used properly you had a lot more grunt to get up those hills.
With reference to Penllyne, you are probably right about the 8 legger Foden sleeper, although I think they had a couple of 6x4 Foden units with L 10 290s, running at 38,000kg 3 + 2 set up. Talk about being underpowered. I think you will find the sleepers came after the miners strike, due to Williams Bros Cross Hands,_ _ Morgan of Cardiff ( grey f86s ), and many others packed it in. In your earlier post you mentioned the DAF 95, iirc there was an Volvo F12 tag axle, and a 2435 twin steer Merc as well, strange mix that.
Didn’t mean to be long winded, have to get the posts in when I can, short on time due to the wifes mother and three adopted disabled kids visiting from Cardiff.

Cheers Paul

I took these in 1991 in North Devon, she’d been parked up for a while.
