Hi all,
Courtesy of Bryndon Evans, his fathers shot of the former Wales Gas depot in Neath.
Well Pete359, Thank you for making my day posting the 4 Scammell’s of D.J.Daniels Pontyberem Llanelli Carmarthenshire Wales. Just down the road from me here!
I spent 18 months here helping on the maintenance when i was a 20 / 21 yr old as the Ford Dealership i worked at didn’t work at the weekends so i made my extra corn here great memories , i will print this photo off and take down to Roy Daniels when i see him on Sunday morning.
The 3 on the left were all new there the 2nd left NCY 58R The 1st of around 15 they bought new, and then they had 4 new Constructors 1 of which was a 6 wheeler.
All of these were supplied from Fletchers Of Swansea the Leyland Car & Truck Dealers.
Don’t recall the far right one to be honest as after my time there, and the picture is probably well into the mid 80’s as the Lorries have not got the signwriting on them!
58R had the 680 Engine 295t was R.R. 220 & 299V TL11, IT’S SISTER 300V went on to have a 250 ■■■■■■■ with a fuller road ranger gearbox fitted recall this being an unique flyer!!
Great to reminisce & clear the cobwebs around the grey matter!!
Thanks again
Eifion.
Pete359,
Meant to have added Tony Rees of Tony M Rees whose trucks are shown earlier back Drove for D.J.Daniels for a while!

A couple of shots of the original M5/M50 junction, some loads been shed on that bend! Cheer’s Pete
Hi Pete,
Thanks for the images of that junction.I remember it very well, was a little like a banked oval racing circuit if you were South bound! Courtesy of a former J.R. Driver,a couple of 80’s motors, thanks to Sion Evans.

Another firm that were always around from S. Wales. You would see them in convoy running out on the M4 early hours in the 70,s.

Great to see images of original M50 /M5 junction as a young lad going with my dad on night trunks with Sandersons we would always stop at Strensham services. Then onwards to Newport, liked going by Monmouth but really liked it if one of the drivers was to leave his wagon at Aust services for dayshift shunter, as that would mean in those days,as M5 hadn,t been built going through Tewkesbury and Gloucester on the old A38 and then getting to see the Severn bridge which always amazed me.
I keep looking at this thread and I just wondered if I would be showing my age when I said I remember going through “The Roman Fortress of Isca” - namely Usk,on the old A449 on me way to Llanwern/Port Talbot/Baglan Bay/Llandarcy in me AEC MK3 Mammoth Major when working for A E Evans ?
Just had a thought,am I getting mixed up with Caerleon?..

You’re definitely showing your age Chris , I can vaguely remember Isca and Carleon on the old road , incidentally did you use the steep hill from Carleon over the hill and down through the council estate as a short cut to Llanwern ? Dave

Yes,I remember going into Llanwern through that council estate Dave.I can’t remember what year the A449 was dualled to Newport and when the new road into Llanwern was put in - mid 70s maybe? Was it Usk where the road had a sharp left hand bend near the river going towards Newport with the Abergavenny Road coming in from the right?

The sleeper erf was taken at warren insulations old place and around the back the brinks mat robbery took place.
They then moved to Colnbrook.
Sorry about the entress motor photo coming out wrong.

Morning Andrew,
Regarding the pictures of the M50 junction, I’m waiting for some shots of the old A465 HOTV road around Abergavenny area, so fingers crossed they will be good enough to post!
A couple of JR’s that were based in Walsall, the motor on the left must be a re-build or sat in the shed on the farm for a few years! N.M.P, Cheer’s Pete
