Hi all. Andrew that EC10, was it fitted with the ■■■■■■■ M11? Surely not an L10 or LTA10. I would of thought the 14l lump was the obvious choice from 320 to about 440 hp at that time. The 320hp MAN’s had twin splitters and were a tremendous work horse.
Cardiff Transport was surely the ideal firm for a seed vehicle!

Hi all Cardiff transport trucks ran 24/7 with the mans and erf they were never off the road if they did an engine would be out stripped and back in a day the fitters could spot a problem by listening to the engine sound ,I remember coming down from charnock Richard services on night change over with 3 slabs on trailer total 60 tonne on a tri axle and tandem erf, this was my truck which was used for advertising the tyres we used I enjoyed working for them good boys as well

Now come on “smallcoal” you are definitely romancing a bit there aren’t you ■■ You should be writing fairy stories for Hands Christian Andersen! Cheers Bewick. :open_mouth: :unamused:

Hi all,
I worked alongside Cardiff Transport and I personally delivered thousands of slabs from both the abbey and llanwern to lakenby steelworks in Cleveland and many other ports.Tbf to Dennis,I personally have never seen three slabs on one trailer. The lakenby loads were always two 12 tonners @ 38 tonnes gross back then. The oversize slabs we used to take to Swansea Dock were 24 tonnes and shipped to North America to stamp out the bottom of a railway wagon. The thousands we moved to and from the abbey to and from llanwern varied from 10 upto 24 tonnes.ive never seen three on a single trailer ever,Smallcoal is getting a bit carried away here? I think…
Regards andrew.

A little tale of Cardiff transport (ponderosa) . I was a tramper came in yard and was told by heir Kinsey my motor was going on the night run . Ok no prob . (had no say in the matter) came in next morning to be told my motor was wrote off after hitting another Cardiff motor also wrote off drivers ok but sacked barthplugs .I was asked would I go on nights for rest of the week so would not lose any money .ok no prob . And ended up on nights for the next ten years . Was on channock change over and brought down many motherwell slabs some times three on board if two slabs ten ton of ally on top once had two slabs forty foot long ten foot wide and a jcb 3 on top with backactor and bucket on and got witnesses . Once got stopped at ross early one morning by the law not in the weigh bridge in another layby the one officer (want say cop) walk around wagon the other a Sargent checked taco !! got his calculator out as taco was in kilometers punched in numbers shock his head and said 93 he said no no thats not right and punched it in again it is 93 he looked at me unbelievable can’t really explain it and said get out of my sight so I did . I can say john (smallcoal) is not fantasizing all true . I did the last ever channock richards change over .

Hi slowotto great times in the ponderosa what did you drive ,when was you there ,bringing them slabs on nights was like being on a suicide mission     furer Kingsley ,frosty,Timmy Carlton Hobbs and curly all in the office glad someone else knows cheers John

You all may think it’s fairy tales but unless any of you have run bent ,overweight and never done it ,that’s how we got paid good money and ct was not paying wasted time and haulage always got the job done and if anyone can say they not done any off the above then be it but for another ct driver on here who done it as well what does that say

Hi all,
I know this was an irish company, but for me there will always be a place for this firm on our south wales thread. As a truck mad 1970’s kid i used to cycle to the A48 to see these motors, often running heavy  through Mid-Glamorgan,heading for the M4 which then started at tredegar park.image courtesy of Kevin Kelleher on Facebook.Another F89 leaving fishguard.

hi all,
A few here of the then vast, swansea BRS yard.

This would be where Toys r us are now opposite Sainsburys.
Remember Morley Walters tramped from here before locating to Bridgend.
1 of the original seven contract drivers on Rockwool.

Hi Scania 81 , I ran with Morley Walters many times always wore pyjamas and dressing gown on a night out sat outside his truck with a deckchair and small table I believe he became a councillor down the Gower when he retired what a character ! .

Morning Smallcoal , I think transhipping was the norm with CT seen them with a full load of coil into the yard then top up with sheet steel in between overloaded would be an understatement ! All the best Ianto.

Ianto full pelt:

Evening Ianto,i have a old photo of Morley standing outside a early Swansea Brs 50,s eight wheeler erf on is way to Isle of grain with pipes on.
I can remember him looking at delivery notes with is glasses like a old bank manager.
You would remember his mate Denzil Davies aka The Happy Wanderer, who drove on the Western Book Binders contract originally from Llanelli.
His knowledge on Gwynne Bowen etc was 2nd to none and spoke fluent welsh a lot.
He use to crack me up laughing about is big ford which i thought was a transcon but it was a Ford d box van.
Excellent memories.
