Hi all,
Another pair of images courtesy of scanua81.

Typical day at Llandow hanger 2.
Mike Evans is to the left who drove MLJ 962W[111 sleeper].
Billy James in the middle who served over 40 years[RIP]and to the right is Spencer Chillcot who drove for Jones motors Kenfig Hill and J and M stormy.[RIP].

The Daf 22oo was a batch of 4 and lacked power fully loaded with a back to front gearbox.
From a young cab rat,s point of view it was very comfy with the arm rests.
Victor the pole had 1 and he loved it.1 went to Shrewsbury.

My dad Ron Evans had one the Dafs in red I’ve heard all about
The back to front gear box from him but he liked the
Truck

HI all,
i have had alot of positive feedback for Dave beer’s J&M reunion.sadly due to a clash of dates,i couldn’t attend.I had previously agreed to deliver this 1976 AEC Mercury that came into work last october. We carried out the work for B.J.Waters transport,a proper family firm thats been in the international bulk business for ever.i remember their lorries in south wales every day as a kid.40 plus years later it was my absolute pleasure to meet the family and carry out the restoration for them.A few images here from the hundreds that i took.

Hi all,
A peter Davies photo of western BRS courtesy of scania81.

When i spotted this photo for sale i could not believe my luck.
Brand new to my late dad and Dai page.
It had a customised red and was put in the bridgewater show.[trade stand]
I thought i was hauling with the gaul at the particular era when the fleet was made up of mainly seddons.
My guess it was taken around 1 of the london wharfs, perhaps convoys deptford.[surrey quays].
Leave Bridgend at 2300hrs sunday night and dai page would collect at shepherds bush.
Depending on destination drop my dad off at Eltham, tip and reload.Night trunk to Bridgend and back up.
The friday night was down to bridgend, drop trailer and do a Avonmouth trailer swap.
It was taken off the run along side LTC427P,driven by Tony Petit and the shaker .
It had a repaint into the new colours and hit by a tipper on the old M4 by chepstow. The driver Bill Beechy a really nice man was unharmed.

LAA 983T was new to my late dad and Don Tuck[37year man]they went on to VHO 499V.
The trailer[515] in the background had a double headboard, the truck was mostly used on london lorry park night changeovers.
The rockwool scania[D406 FHW] is me stripping it out on a saturday morning after tipping scotswood road newcastle the day before.27th february 1992
John Raymond took all the work March the 1st 1992.
The Crusader was driven by billy best bitter from Porthcawl, what a character.
I rode shotgun 1 night from Aylesbury with him and the memory will never leave me.He always had a spitfire jacket on and drove a jeep.
Percy Bailey would share a lift in a t shirt with him and would be blue when he arrived for work.[open top jeep].He would not admit he was cold.
I have a lot better photos and will get them to you.
Sorry for clogging up the thread everyone.
Dai Thomas

Chris 143,s father Ron Evans had 1 brand new and the Model Maker.Owen edmunds.
He left to work for Wenault in cardiff to drive a big Daf but had a restart down the line.
I sat in 1 brand new and they were the business at the time.

Andrew I did see the rig on Friday night as you were dropping down past Pencraig, Ross bound around 8pm. I just assumed there was a vintage show on somewhere that you were heading to!. The light was fading a touch and I was in a car cracking on back to Newport but the AEC looked well on the short trailer. I echo your words. Saw them all over Newport in my early years in Seddon 400’s etc. Nice picturesque part of the world in Darley Dale and nice people who were drivers themselves around South Wales back in the day. Hi Dennis,
Thanks for the kind words.the truck was delivered to us on 06/10/16,all prearranged between ourselves and B.J.Waters.i delivered the truck back to them on 19/05/17.we airbrushed the lettering using computer cut stencils and lacquered over that with 2k clear.my personal favourite way of doing lettering.it can have a very nice effect especially with three colour characters.it can have an embossed look imo.
Regards andrew.

Very interesting that explanation Andrew thanks! We are having a family lunch on Sunday at home with our Son for his birthday so I will show him your post as he will no doubt fully understand your explanation mate as he is into all kinds of signage nowadays, I’ve lost touch with it all. As a matter of interest if you ever call into those new Gloucester Services M5 he manufactured and installed all the signage. The services are operated by Westmorland Ltd from Tebay and he has done all their work for a long time so they insisted he did the Gloucester services signage so he had a few trips up and down with overnight stays ! Cheers Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
They are the two best services in the country imo.we called into Tebay last July returning from Newcastle via Carlisle.i think lance Biscomb told me Tebay was voted the best in the uk? I will look out for the signs at Gloucester next time I call in.
Regards andrew.
