cj bird’s 463 roadhouse, pride and joy of aled daniel, was ritten off in norfolk? by another cj bird driver.

hi all,
back in the late 80’s there was a fleet of these steyr’s running steel out of somerset wire and cardiff rod and bar.i knew a few of the lads driving them, they had eaton twin splitters in them.whilst the cab wasn’t very stylish  as i recall, they went quite well.

Nice Steyr Andrew. Note the reg F908 BKG, F906 and F907 BKG were built as recovery trucks by the dealer Walls. F906 was a 19s31 [also a twin splitter] while F907 was a 13tonner.

Would that be Castle coch in the background?
Neil.

hi neil,
i think?that dave lawrence, years later owned one of those welsh steyr’s.i seem to recall steve evans coming to gaydon with it one year.kev.dennis definatley had one also.yes that is castle coch.i think?a good few pages back  i posted a photo of f907 taken at truckfest shepton mallet in the 80’s/90’s.
regards andrew.

This one at Gaydon in 2008 Andrew.

F907 BKG was a silver/blue crew cab converted slidebed with the luxury of a tv/video in cab for passengers [this was 20+ years ago remember]. It was written off when it hit a bull lying on a dark road [I’m not making this up] the recovery body was put onto a G90 MAN which went on to cover huge mileage.

hi all,
back in july 1999 i borrowed this scania from my old mate alun griffiths for the porthcawl carnival.s5 asg was the last new scania a.s.g. bought and was driven from new by bob pearce.

South Wales haulier Andy Longs fleet parked up for the weekend.
Neil.

Hi Neil how are you, they were based on Bridgend industrial estate, North Road, in stillers old yard but very recently the yard is completely empty

They’ve moved yards a few times, Andy Long is from Newport and they used to run out of what was once Tony House transports yard in Marshfield.
Neil.
