hywel mason’s f16 and eight more alongside .
pete 359:
ex keith gornall (rip) of ribchester lancs.they also ran f16’s they were the best kept steel wagon’s i ever saw.
Given my memory a jog here Andrew as I can re-call Kieth Gornall from my Brady days and he was one of Ridings star men, drove an LAD Beaver in those days and spent a lot of time in Scotland at Ravenscraig IIRC.He used to go mad with delight when he “clocked” us in the Octopus and trailer on the A74 or M6 occaisionally. He was the only driver I ever saw that could lean out of an LAD window up to his waist, and wave!!! My mate on the Octopus would say “he’s -------- mad” he’ll fall out one day!!! IIRC he wore brown bib and brace over a white T shirt-----and Clogs!!! Great bloke though, always had his motor “mint” which obviously carried on to when he ran his own motors on the same steel job years afterwards.I think he had a brother called John? Must have been a good man for Ridings over the years he was there.Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
He worked for Ridings when I was there i didn’t work there very long but remember him well worked for them for years and as you say one of Toms star men the dress code you describe just about fitted all Riding’s drivers.exccept me I wore proper clothes being a former BRS lad.
thanks harry long retired.

I wonder if Entress Transport bought that off Metal Box,there was one still used as storage in their yard at Llansamlet in the mid-70s.

Thanks for that Keith. It would have been around 1976 when I saw the Entress Octopus in their yard as I used to fill up there. The yard man was shunting it around transhipping some gear off it onto a trailer. They were running F86s then, not much difference in design.

Done many miles in one identical to this pulling a drawbar and remember seeing these contract motors but can’t remember what they carried Ie’ finished product which would have weighed nowt on such a short platform or tinplate from the mills which would have meant running at gross weigh, they wasn’t very speedy to start with but with 14 tons in my case 20 tons behind they would have been slow very slow but they would always get you there and back I only had to defect one once and that was for a burnt out windscreen wiper motor.
thanks harry long retired
