that wagon of joints mate is going so fast its a blur.thats why its not a clear photo we were traveling too fast.those marathons were so good you didnt know you were moving.so luxurious to drive and what a ride! never felt a bump.did you ever drive one dave?[i dont think the british know how to make a comfortable truck]i remember a chap in atki,s in preston telling me that atki,s were built around the driver.i nearly fell out of the fibre glass cab which leaked at the first rain and had no power steering and was brand new.these youngsters dont know their born with the wagons these days.i remember trying to get an 8 wheel atki around pyle roundabut[where the lights are now]and having to stand up in the cab to turn the steering wheel and do a shunt as it wouldnt turn right in one go from margam to get down marlas road to get home for an early getaway to middlesborough in morn.full load of coke.phew i,m knackered just remembering it.that was a new wagon belonging to dai cap and tommy morgan.no power steering on 8 wheelers then! ade.
Hiya âŚit shows how fast we could go before limiters. trucks was a blur between birmingham and the steel works.
thats right isânt it andrew.
Cheers John

hi john,
brilliant photos mate.i cropped this one.
andrew, this photo i took in the layby on the way out of stourbridge.ron rees and myself very often met there and had a cuppa before running down together.ade.
Would you have delivered to Hayes tubes in Lye ? Blueline were regulars here as well regards kk Ps Richardsons of Oldbury also hauled steel in here from Port Talbot
hi kk,
yes and lye trading, davro iron and steel, church and bramell, servo 1 and 2 and dozens of others.every day and night in those days, welsh wagons tipped steel all over.
Cheers for that pete 359 a regular of Joints at Lye trading was their Renault R340 which i think has already appeared on this thread .I think it was with a Shrewsbury based driver and would park up at Harlescott. of that part of town sometimes loaded with bricks from Sedgeley regards kk
we used to load bricks back from lots of places in the midlands.sedgeley was one.
as far as i remember joints only had one renault and i should have had it as i was due the next new one.as it was only on demo for a six month period originally i had to wait fot rhe next new one and peter hardy had it new.they painted it up as renault were trying to get alan to buy their trucks and they gave them that one free for six months so other firms would think we,d bought it.alan told me he didnt want it but they offered it at such a low price after the 6 month term that he couldnt refuse.it was an âAâ reg as i had a âBâ reg merc after.unless i,m mistaken they never had another one.wether she wet on change over after i,d finished i dont know but i know peter hardy had it new as he,d only been there a few months and had a new truck.after all the old crap we used to have he was lucky.before we were lucky to have a good second hand wagon with no heater. fair play to alan jones he started buying new and didnt stop.i remember bobby,s dad deryl saying to alan that "its all yours now boy"and they didn look back after a while.he had a good buissiness head like his old man dil jones who died young.
