Sorry to hear about your discharge Taylor91, hope your injury doesn’t cause you too much grief.
As ex Tk tptr myself I can tell you that your heavy haulage experience won’t count for a lot on the outside. That’s not a pop at you dude, it’s just the way it is. Of course I’d love for you to prove me wrong, but you’re gonna have to do that the old fashioned way and knock on lots of doors. Who knows, you just may be at the right place at the right time.
If you’re prepared to move away from the heavy stuff then Reed Bordall at Boroughbridge take on loads of young ex squaddies on the fridges. It certainly isn’t the best paying job in the world but it’s a foot in the door until you get a tad older. I’m almost certain that they have outbased motors too so maybe something around your neck of the woods?

Hi Joe, Im from Manchester and currently at home. Ive seen a company called Bennets of Wilmslow who do heavy haulage but not contacted them yet as not sure what route to go down. Suppose its all about the money with what area of work id go for. cheers Taylor.
bennetts would take you on but you’d not get on the heavy stuff chris drives that with his mother, brother and grease monkey following in the van what part of the republic ov mancunia are you from? Bennetts of wilmslow are at cheadle if memory serves correctly! good luck in civvy street, sorry about your discharge you’ll be better off out of it anyway! ££££££££££££s in civvy street, £s in the army! good luck for your future job hunting
Suppose the excess with the insurance is a good thing to remember even if i said id coff up 500 of the queens finest if i had a bump.
Think im going to get all my resettlement done and just get out there and see what happends but not really wanting less then £9 an hour at class 1 its seems the average price wouldnt want to be doing it for £7 an hour thats slave labour.
Fatboy im from wythenshawe but live in gorton with the mrs not sure which one is worst ha. Yeah i seen on there website they got a yard in cheadle that aint to far away always seeing them wish means there busy from curtainsiders, flat beds then the bigger stuff.
seems the best bet for good money is iver tramping, heavy haulage or getting in on the tankers with danger money but can see that being a one bloke out one in kind of thing.
Personally I would stay away from tankers until I got to know the civi street system. One wrong move on them chemical tankers-open the wrong valve etc,-could be lethal.

Hi i am currently still a serving soldier and my trade is Tank Transporter, but soon to be medicaly discharged from an injury from Afghanistan . Im 23 at the moment but by the time im out i will be nearer to 24. Been in my trade since 2011 and before some of uses say army drivers are crap im not a DROPS driver i drive everyday in an arctic or a Oshkosh HET when im in work.
Just wanted to know back in Civvie street if i would be better trying to go down the heavy haulage route which im used to doing , or going down the other trucking routes curtain side, iso containers ect.
In my resettlement i will be able to get my HIAB,ADAR in tanks aswell as out and a full CPC course ( think its 35 hours) so this will help me out alot i hope.
Cheers.
I wish you all the best in your resettlement, and hope that things kick on well for you.
I’m from sale moor originally, but I’m in Stretford pal, try killilea, ask for bob! PP O’connor ruttles there’s loads around pal, just keep looking you’ll get a break! just don’t sell your soul! £10 min, 8 hours! Time and a half after 40! double time weekends and don’t work more than 48 hour weeks, like we were supposed to years ago!
You drove tank transporters?!! Big respects, proper boys own stuff. Sorry to hear about your discharge from service. I’ve no experience at all of the attitudes towards the relevance of Army heavy transport within the civvy driving world but from an arm chair point of view I’d have thought any company would do well to snap your arm off, heavy haulage included as you will be used to some serious procedures and training in securing some seriously big lumps of metal to a tricky to drive truck in order to traverse tricky terrain. I’ve come across some ex military drivers and they’re extremely professional in their outlook. You’re probably very trainable too (which you have to be to be in the military I’m guessing?).
