Some more hull outfits

Chris Webb:
Hi Bill,a friend of mine over here in the IOM was a salesman for Priestmans, north of England and Scotland area, and all their urgent Scottish spares requirements went on Falkinghams(Hull and Glasgow) trunks, never got let down he said.
Have you any photos of Wakes?

Chris

hi Chris, your mate from Priestmans may have some interesting pictures of Hedon Road in the old Priestman days. Saltend, Imperial Typewriters etc.

I’ve already asked him Malc but no photos which is a pity. Wasn’t there a bridge on Hedon Road that said “Priestmans,a mile ahead” or summat similar? He told me that most of his meals in Hull were taken in the old Berni Inn,best “piece in toon” as they say from up their end in Ecosse. He also recalls the Fleur de Lys  .
Just looking at that old lighter near Saltend, would that have been one of John Forman’s original mode of transport parked up on a dodgy?
I can’t remember the year when the M62 was finally opened all the way through to the Rocket at Liverpool, early 70s I suppose, but Wakes had Scania 110s or 111s and they were on about doing two Scouselands a day from Hull in their hours.Always seemed to be loaded with timber, the Evans driver who was killed in that accident at Ottringham used to park in their yard, back in 1980 or 81.I never went to Humbrol, but we had a 500 gall drop twice a year at a small place on Driffield Road and the local resident across used to phone our firm up if you went on the kerb to back in,the old sod.
C B North were timber merchants I think? Struther and Carter were steel stockholders but I can’t think who the agent was for Air Products,I’m sure there was one in Hull.

He used to call in my Dads pub on his way to London and on the way back. I am sure he used to go shooting on the farm next door. He certainly became a customer away from the lorries and the last time I saw him was in the little cafe near Drypool Bridge.
