Look at the name of the thread title.
I do it anyway. Hazards on for a few flashes so people wake up
Often other truckers do the same behind me
Signed and hope something like a tv or radio campaign is introduced
10-08:
I’ll sign it on the condition that the recovery lads turn the flashy lights off once they are going unless they are actually slow or wide. Its really distracting and makes it difficult to see ahead at night.
This is something that gets on my wick as well, it is our policy to have out beacons on when towing a vehicle whether on our trailer (RDT) or on a solid bar, I dont agree and I reckon that once the light board is fitted then there is no need for beacons, unless of course its in a built up area however the issue I have is the lads that drive the flatbed recovery trucks that like to have the beacons flashing when they are moving as there is no need, now I can understand that this is an oversite a lot of the time but there are a few that tend to have their Hero Light
on all the time, this is generally the younger lads that have came into our industry and like to have a bit of “Look at me and my big truck” bless them. but the novelty soon wears off.
Thank you everyone for the great support, I am sorry that I cannot come on as often as I would like but my own work is taking up a lot of my time, I do realise that a few of you have asked some questions and I will get back to you shortly but in the meantime please keep spreading the word.
Thank you.
Signed, hope you get more signatures, good cause,
i always try to get out way .
This became federal law here in January and all matrix signs in almost every state were posting it, but even then as I move over for them I see idiots come up the inside ignoring the law, a lot of them are just stupid and can’ see beyond the front of their car, even passing under one of those very signs
signed and passed on

As standard this is what i do when i can and safe to do so, i have to say when completing this manouvre i do look in my mirrors and are dissapointed not to see the hgv behind me not do the same. As many, i have been in this situation myself and know and understand the dangers that lie ahead.

Ditto.
Ken.
I do it as a matter of course, and I think your campaign is a good idea. There was talk a few years ago of fitting flashing reds to recovery vehicles instead of ambers, is this still on the agenda do you know?

Apparantly the use of reds was considered but was objected by the police as they were worried about overuse by every tom ■■■■ and harry and would weaken their effect just like what happened with the ambers
It must be scary to be working on the hard shoulder to get stranded vehicles moving . I can only applaud these guys who help us all out .
And , as annoying as it can be when a lane is closed by the traffic wombles , its done for a purpose …and if it saves one life then its worth a few minutes on our journeys .
As a standard , I move over if possible and as I night trunk I always have loads of warning of stationary vehicles flashing away in the distance and easily visible , so it should be a fairly easy manoeuvre . Not so easy once the roads get busy though , and I would have thought if it were law it would be very difficult to police …That said , Ive signed the petition , as every little helps !
I would think a campaign to educate the general public would be of huge benefit …and whilst they re making an SDMO campaign can they also do one on middle lane drivers ? Just downright selfish and dangerous .

I see their point but we could have a law stating that only recovery vehicles are allowed to be fitted with them. You’re right about the ambers, they may as well not be there. As stated earlier, some (and I mean some) recovery drivers are guilty of abusing ambers and adding to the problem.

I was recently re-trained for recovery by ivr instructor and the advice given for beacons is emergency use only and to warn of a hazard whilst working, bit then you see a dustcart driving down the middle lane of a motorway with all the beacons going ■■?

Absolutely. I saw a Veolia dustcart working in Camden recently and between the indicators and the multitude of beacons i counted twenty-six amber flashing lights in use to collect some rubbish from a sidestreet.
If that is the norm for that level of risk to the average road user, imagine how many times the warning would have to be multiplied for the level of risk on the hard shoulder to register the same way in Mr Average’s head…
signed up tonight
Signed. Rather shocked that we need a petition for something that is SO obvious!

i to do it a standard practice also do so with cars because u never no who’s going to run out in front of you.Did it the other day for the plastics and they gave me the thumbs up.

I try to move over when possible but when a numpty MLM is blocking me in what am I supposed to do, push them out the way?
You should slow down significantly and then either “numpty” from middle lane go forward and you can change lane, or you can slow down even further and pass the vehicle on the hard shoulder safely.
i always move over and while this campaign has my full support, i doubt it would do any good. the average car driver hasnt the faintest idea about driving in the first place so should we not be looking at that before going onto advanced stuff like other peoples safety?
Signed with my full support,
I remember working on M and A roads with VCB’s feeling very vunerable day in day out, wondering if they had been connected properly should someone make a mistake, would the vehicle be contained outside my work area. Especially at the mad speeds some would run through at. That’s with decent protection and I felt uneasy so god knows how people work on them day in, day out with no protection at all
Only using hard shoulders in emergencies and breakdowns, they seem very dangerous places in full speed heavy morning/evening traffic, so my hat’s off to the people who do have to work on them in those conditions, I know it’s a job but no-one deserves to die in the job they’re doing due to the inconsideration of others!
I do try not to speed through roadworks and try to move over if i see anything stationary on the hard shoulder or if no choice ease off the accelerator, so I will continue to stick to the pledge you have raised.
Best of luck with educating the sheeple of the UK with the above message! You have more patience than I!
