I did fridge work for about a year. When I first started I thought I’d never get used to it and nearly quit but I persevered. After a couple of weeks I did indeed get used to it and slept alright.
The job I was doing meant quite a lot of parking up very early, sometimes as early as 11.00 and not having to start until early the next day. The fridge stop starting through the day when I was awake became more annoying!
Been pulling fridges for the last 6 months now.Tried doing all the things mentioned here but i just can’t seem to sleep with the bloody thing humming away while still hooked up to the unit so i just uncouple and pull a few feet forward when possible and sleep like a log

Always found the vibration more of a problem than the noise. So as said wind down legs, trailer brake on, pull pin, ease forward and dump air out of unit’s suspension. No contact with trailer-no vibration. No need to disconnect airlines, just remember to reconnect before you move off
This is what I used to do and you’ll be surprised what a difference it made, now I’m just a day worker pulling fridges so not nighted our now for 4 yrs .
I dont pull fridges and despite me saying numerous times on here I’d turn them off to wind people up, actually they dont bother me. I can sleep fine next to one each side if needs be and if it’s too raucous I’ve got earplugs.

Leave it on continuous rather than stop start. As others have said you can drop it and pull forward a few feet or get yourself a kingpin lock then you can park further away from it. Might be worth asking your gaffer to get a staple lock for the back doors as well if you’re overnighting with stuff on. The above is what I used to do anyway. If you’re tired you’ll sleep anyway, earplugs are your friend. Only downside of ear plugs is if you need to hear your alarm to wake up.

Thanks for the advice, I usually hit snooze 3 or 4 times as it is and that is without earplugs

Like others have said at first leave it on constant. Also worth trying a noise app on your phone at home through headphones. Look for one that has white noise and see if you can start getting used to that. Done fridges most of my career and now I use white noise if trying to sleep somewhere noisy as it drowns out all background noise. Same with a fridge esp if trying to sleep in day. Don’t pull them now and believe it or not I miss their noise when parked somewhere busy
Thanks for the advice Luke, I will download an app ans see how I get on with it.
Thanks for all the advice guys, some good ideas and comments. Much appreciated.
Constant…
Or stop start, I slept like a baby with it roaring away less than two feet away from me.
It was usually whinning curtainsider drivers that woke me up.

Parked next to a fridge once, driver said to me:
“Oh no! Have I gotta put up with that tilt sheet blowing and rattling in the wind?”

He told me another classic, too.
“So I parked up, and the other driver say “On no. Is that gonna be running all bloody night?” So I said “Yeah, sorry”,…and turned it on.”
Many years ago when I pulled fridges, I got so used to it that I found when it was empty and switched off I had trouble sleeping, and then ended up turning it on so I could get some sleep.
Pulled fridges for years prefer them much easier can sleep with them on stop/start or constant at least it drowns out the noise of everything else
I find if on stop/start I wake up if it don’t start back up sometimes get out & check
Although I now just do nights with a fridge

That’s when you know (wo)man and machine at ‘at one’ with each other and perfectly synchronized. It takes a long time to become this much a fridge expert! But yup, same here, you just know when it.should be running and isn’t somehow

id be of a similar ilk myself though voices usually wake me even if i dont know thats what has woken me.
after im awake, then il usually have a peek and see if it worth bothering about.
Try coming over to the USA and sleeping with the engine running all night, especially when it does a regen and wakes you up.
Nice thread.
I don’t know if you remember but a truckstop in Snapethorpe was flooded last year when a fridge went down:

Sorry maybe it wasn’t Snapethorpe but anyway please remember to defrost the unit before you go and listen to the resident organist in the portacabin and eat your canteen style beige meal. Keep on Truckin’.
