Siemens VDO 1.4?

Had a new unit today with one of these in and it saves a bit of driving time because i had exactly the same run today as i did Tuesday and i did it in 14 minutes less driving time today. Just needs getting used to with regards doing the manual entries at the start of the day.

These will be the new tachos that “rob” less minutes or make you drive more

There’s a post I started on the Stoneridge SE500 Exakt HERE

and another post HERE by geebee45 which explains a bit about these new program tachos.

We had a new Siemens DTCO 1381 Rel 1.4 installed and it came with a leaflet.

The leaflet says manual entries are now entered in local time and it converts it for storing and print out.

It also has the ability to add a remote download device with automatic pre-defined download schedules via GPRS

The leafelt also advertised TIS Track & Trace " for operators who need to know exactly where their vehicles are located and where they have been" which appears to be a full tracking facility that the leaflet says only requires the DTCO 1381 and a PC which kind of makes it sound like there’s a tracker built in ?

Apparently faster downloads and graphical printouts detailing speed and 7 day driver mode activities

A leaflet, no instruction manual like there used to be ?

It came with a book but it was the old one and didn’t cover the new revision.

I have since got some further detail from the supplier listing the changes

NEW 1 MINUTE DRIVING RULE
REMOTE DOWNLOAD COMPATIBLE
NEW SIMPLIFIED MANUAL ENTRY IN LOCAL TIME
COMPANY CAN SET REGISTRATION NUMBER (ONCE ONLY)
GRAPHICAL PRINTOUTS WITH SPEED DIAGRAMS AND PROFILES
EARLY WARNINGS FOR UPCOMING PERIODICAL INSPECTIONS AND EXPIRY OF TACHOGRAPH CARDS
9 COLOURS FOR BACKLIGHT
SMOOTH DIMMING FUNCTION
FASTER DOWNLOAD
DOWNLOAD STATUS SHOWN ON DISPLAY
DRIVER CARD DOWNLOAD WITHOUT COMPANY CARD POSSIBLE
INTERFACE FOR ONBOARD COMPUTERS OR OTHER TELEMATICS
RECORDING OF ADDITIONAL DATA - i.e ODOMETER READING WHEN VEHICLE STOPS, 168 HOURS SPEED RECORDINGS

But still no actual instructions. The driver using it tells me its simple enough and he reckons to be saving 20 - 30 minutes on most days.

I’m hoping to have a mess with it when the vehicle is back in over the weekend.

Bones:
Hello All,

Righto we have started to get some replacement heads fitted to vehicles when the original head fails. However they are fitting the new release 1.4 heads. now on first glance they are exactly the same but there a few differences.

The main difference to me appears to be around manual entries and then the “most activity in a minute” recording.

I have a “guide” from Siemens on how to do manual entries on the new heads but its not the easiest to follow with a “?” symbol now thrown into the mix. Also all manual entries are now to be made in Local time and not UTC.

So. Does anyone have an easy to understand guide for the manual entries and becasue at work we have some vehicles with old head and some with new do i need to put some entries in on UTC (old heads) and some in local (new heads)

Odd that it doesn’t be linked nicely from the UK site.

Well … three months isn’t that long really is it

I know that 3 months is a long time, but this may be the “leaflet” soem have refered to. A bit simpler than the main instruction manual

Hi mate i think the “?” make you refer to is cos its asking you to make a choice, ie yes or no or which country you want things like that

In the manual, the “?” pictogram means “Unknown”

Just as it does with the current VU, it’s on every 24-hour printout where the card has been removed between shifts.

Quite why you would need to make a manual entry as unknown I don’t know, as you would surely know, unlike the VU, what you had been doing during that period.

Perhaps, if you have already recorded the time spent away from the VDO 1.4 vehicle on an Analogue disc? You would not be expected to record it twice would you?

I found this video for entering manual entries on the Siemens 1.4 if anyone needs it.

Have to say that in my opinion they gone backwards and made it less intuitive :frowning:

I’m surprised that you have to put manual entries in local time, are you sure about that ?

If that is correct then the tachograph must be changing the time to UTC because it would have to be recorded as UTC time on the driver card.

Anyway when you use the old type tachograph you should use UTC time for manual entries as usual, using local time on an old style tachograph could lead to problems for you.

yep according to the info here and else where its local time now!
