"We were shouting at the driver to stop but I don’t think he spoke very good English.

Thats strange, cos i thought whenever any English people shouted at foreigners, the foreigners immediatly understood them.

Own Account Driver:
From the media anyone would think before sat-nav no lorry driver ever took a wrong turn or cut in too tight.

Hungarian says it all…

Managed to get myself in many a tight spot without the help of a Sat Nav. Including blocking part of Accrington until the Police, myself and a "very helpful :unamused: " local found the owner of a car which was blocking my escape and another time when Italian Policeman moved a set of barriers after we ended in a blocked off road, when we took the wrong exit off a roundabout in Milan.

But I at least think I’ve always realised at which point to stop going forward so I didn’t get wedged tight.

Coming from the right way it’s perfectly fine,he should have realised and gone to turn round and come back…

thats a piece of pee

Cool :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

looking at street view, that can be done without incident, so long as you go far enough past the turning to be able to complete the turn, but then again, theres drivers, and theres screwdrivers, then theres foreigners.

I’m not so sure. This is more or less where the front of the unit will need to be to clear the pivot point of the trailer at it’s rear axles relative to the building on the corner before starting the turn.

google.com/maps/@52.89991,- … FrV9eQ!2e0

The next stage is to turn it into a reverse L shape at which point the unit is well on it’s way into the front of the pub. Then you’ve got to jacknife it beyond an L while clearing the left front corner of the unit relative to the pub. While at the same time making sure that the tail sweep has cleared the telegraph pole on the nearside verge being that it’s a reasonable bet that the overall length of the turning outfit is considerably more than the distance between the pub and the nearside kerb.

Realistically firstly you’d need to make certain that the address of the delivery point is actually in that road and then approach it from the opposite direction although from that point U turn opportunities seem to be possibly limited for miles.

It’s how he would have wanted to go don’t feel sad

God, he ain’t even close with making that is he.
Do they just do it with their eyes closed?

Although the other day after being solo & forgetting I now had a trailer on, i did nearly write my trailer off on a metal railing at a set of traffic lights, I pinged one of them plastic pollards & just clocked it
In time & slammed on, lucky the van behind didn’t ram me, red face all round lol.

Giggity!

The buck stops with you and your (if you have any) common sense. If the satnav points you down a place that is obviously too small for you then don’t go down it! Also, if he was using a truck satnav surely it wouldn’t of taken him round that bend?

No such thing as a truck satnav imo! My Pooper always try’s to turn me into stupid places. Okay for heights (with caution) but length it really struggles with. Mk1 eyeballs and common do a much better job - if it’s tight to get in its probably not the place to be!

I think on mine it seems that the length you enter means it won’t take you down a road with a length restriction on it, but it seems to think I can U turn in a little court in front of a block of flats, or in a tiny residential estate.

The idea of following sat nav directions is a contradiction because at that point it’s an admission that a computer can drive a truck better than a human. When it clearly can’t.It would be interesting to find out just how much technology would be required for a sat nav piloted truck to be able to calculate things like positioning and/or the possibility of turns and other complicated manouvres, taking into account all the different parameters like cut in and sweep etc etc,on a predictive basis,in the same way that the human brain can do the job. That’s when the human brain hasn’t been dumbed down by delegating the required decisions to a stupid computer that would like to think it knows how to drive.Basically the only helpful technology required would be access to google maps then,as always, leave the rest up to the driver to sort sort out.
