SHORTS

limeyphil:
why do people agree to these rules? :unamused:

I suppose because they have to or they won’t be admitted to the premises.

Yet another reason why I prefer doing continental work, it’s hard to imagine anywhere in Spain or Italy banning you from wearing shorts, or telling you to wear a yellow nylon vest which attracts aphids and other winged insects because they think you must be a flower.

I think that in the U.K., the Little Hitlers who wear suits look out of the office window and are angered by the sight of people wearing comfortable clothes. All office workers hate truck drivers simply because of their perceived freedom.

BASF in Bradford…you can’t EVEN book in without wearing long sleeves, :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: ( and that was on Wednesday at + 20c) and that’s before you get on site…once i got in (wearing said long sleeves) the guy who was my dedicated accompanist was… … … … …wearing short sleeves :open_mouth:

Yes, Cleansing Department where I’m driving bin lorries just now have shorts banned, for drivers and loaders… but yet the road boys working with roasting hot tar can wear them? :unamused:

Thats because the road boys actually have some balls :sunglasses: Unlike most truck drivers.

Nothing to do with the driver he just sits in the cab and for the loaders, well it just pathetic.

we have also been to a site 4 times to collect some fork trucks but have had to come away…get to gatehouse…what is your ref number…us… don’t have one…why not… don’t know…what do you want here… to collect some fork trucks you no longer need and no longer wish to pay rental charges on…your not on my list for today so you cannot enter this site, please reverse and leave the site…after a few phone calls whilst still at security and confirming several managers names who authorised said collection…
we are still refused entry cos we aint on his security log…so far over £2000 :open_mouth: pounds has been wasted for collection failure due to said knobhead and “his” rules.

Sorry but I never wear shorts at any time ( dont have the legs for them )

mentioning no names but this king’s transport company are banning them on H&S grounds…,
it’s the king who tried to stop the tide coming in.

wear shorts from end of feb throught till november ish and had a few run ins with elf n safety over the years some a little bit justified ie steel works and some factorys

but one that springs to mind is one of the smaller parcel firms i used to do a night trunk open the curtains go to the smoke shelter have a gossip then back to the cab for a couple of hours power nap get woke up by the forky close curtains and back to base some knob of a new manager turns up and decides that shorts are banned which was fine but i was a subby and as such did not affect me

he tried alsorts to the point in the end i went in dropped trailer and parked outside and wasnt allowed in until trailer was ready which suited me as i did n’t have to walk as far to the smoke shelter

oh and current tm says there not allowed either which got threw out as went up to the office one day and to main gaffers had shorts on as did the planners

i parked in a yard this week walked over to the shower block in shorts an t shirt with all my gear for a shower just as im brushing my teeth a bloke comes into the wash room an says im not meant to be walking across the yard in shorts :open_mouth:
i just said fair enough but was thinking its 6am and anyone can clearly see im going for a shower before i get dressed and crack on with the days work :unamused:

Because there are a lot of tree hugging idiots in high up positions who have come straight out of public school and never had to work a day in their lives! Their job status has to be justified somehow and obviously when their idiotic ideas gets given the green light companies have to follow or run the risk of a hefty fine - where theres a blame theres a claim culture…

I blame Americanisation of the UK, the EU and women in high up jobs

company i work for are insisting we wear a shirt and tie while at work, sat behind that bloody windscreen all day, last year i was lucky enough to have a 10 plate c f with no air con and was heading east towards Pulznits in germany, out side temp was 90 degrees, sent the boss a picture of the temp readout, so 3 weeks later i got an x f guess what , air con stuffed, happy days, p.s. now ive got a 57 plate xf with working a/c, but still some lads got the c f,s poor buggers.

Surely if you’re in Germany you’ll get away with taking that tie off and loosening the collar.

WHen I used to go on to the landfill they were banned which I can see the reason for so used to carry a pair of tracksuit bottoms to slip on.
My old firm decided to ban shorts at all times but my current firm are fine with them.

It amazes me I get out of the lorry with a high viz and hard hat and I can never find anyone to see where they want there load tipped. I get out without ppe on and im beating people off with a stick. This is now my normal route to find the man I need to speak to.

old health and saftey have now stopped us wearing shorts at work !! i know its not a big thing once out of yard and all that but anyone else been stopped from wearing them ■■

Well, when I used to work for Reglit, where we carried glass, we had to wear long trousers, issued to us, made with very thick and strong materials to prevent us from being cut when the glass broke. One driver who delvered to us did not complied and he ended with a few stiches to his leg and a severe blood loss…

But off course it was only when loading/unloading, after that we could wear whatever we wanted.

Haha, I noticed that as well. When I got out from my van in hi-vis, everyone dissapear, as they expect that they will have to do some work, signing paperwork etc.

So I jump out and walk as I am and usually someone approaches me, propably because they are nosy and think that I am some random passer by who just happened to look for something in their place  then if they ask me to wear hivis or something, I usually agree no problem
