Hi gazer you are correct it was I bought it from Pete Aked who used to live at Ringwood. She was a good old work horse.I took her up to no mans land to Dave in the wreckers yard,as it would have cost more than it was worth to keep her on the road.all the best Geoff.
Buzzer:
Geoff this has got to be one of the earliest shots of one off PBC European Mandator coming off the “Poole Antelope” on it’s first trip from Cherbourg to Poole, this was put on the Soton thread by stroker 156 DOT so good on him for the find.
In 1973 I drove an AEC Mandator for PBC and cant believe we used to go out in a non sleeper, I know we really only did France but you could be away four days and slept across the engine on boards, not ideal but we did that back then for £35 quid all in.
Saw Franky Allen about four months ago in the doctors waiting room and asked if he had any pictures but he was not that forthcoming but he must have some tucked away, shame he wont share cheers Buzzer.
Hi, just had to add that i found myself hauling P & O trailers and using there own merc units out of Troon when the port was open. £35 for 3 days puts things into perspective. Iv got Mary Hopkins singing in my tiny at the mo…happy days and well posted pal. (im going to look at that picci again ).
I had an Ex -Amstrong one also Geoff GDW 270 W ,it started life as a wagon and drag but was converted to a 3 axle (rear lift ) by Prince,s , it got written off on its second trip for me when it got rolled on the National below La Jonquara.
Re Cabmont and BI.
Can ANYBODY tell me where I can in touch with Frank Morgan.
I have trailed all the others and most meet at SOFA reunion in Bournemouth in October.

The best days of my life.

YES!
Cabmont.
All those great drivers, with propper trucks, we had.
Mostly DAF 2800 and 3300 and Transcons.
Does anybody know if any of these trucks are still about??
My DAF was MMX 408P and Transcon PCG 503P
Sadly Jim Bailey is not with us anymore. (He ended up with F&S Gibbs) They gave a Jim a great send off.
Resurrecting his old truck, adding his name to the front and a lovely drive past of the church in Codford, where Jim is now resting. RIP Jim.
Cheers to all.
Gary
AKA Slipper 10-4

Cliff luxton:
On the way home earlier this year.
Hi Cliff thanks for the pic it looks deserted compared to the old days when we were over there regularly. I hope you had a nice break down in Spain.Cheers mate see you soon.
Happy New Year Geoff! Does this picture of Phil Horridge’s ERF ‘European’ ring any bells with you? It was clearly taken late in its life with all the bells and whistles on. It is seen here no longer in Horridge livery, but in white with a red waist band. Was it operated by an owner driver perhaps, after Phil was done with it? Cheers, Robert
Robert ,I am sure when Phill had it and Ketty drove it it was red.

Yes, you’re right: red with a white roof and visor (as indeed was the LHD B-series that replaced it). That’s why I wondered if it had been passed on to an o/d. Cheers! Robert

0Hi Dean yes I remember Kismet very well,I also remember two lads from down that way who used to take a trailer with tanks in to Portugal full of shellfish.
They were called Peter and Bart they would go straight through in one hit.The trailer had a donkey engine to keep the water in the tanks aireated.Cheers mate
Peter and Bart , I reckon father and son Peter and James O Neil from Padstow. Peter has a Speedboat called Jaws he does trips around Padstow harbour with now , and James drives for a builders merchant, I know them pretty well

Hi Robert I had a word with Bob Jarrett last night and he seems to think that pic was taken before Phill Horridge owned KRH. He says that it has the original grill and that he remembers Andrew Filsal making a new one for it after someone reversed into it in the yard. I hope you have great new year and look forward to more posts from you this year. All the best Geoff

Hi Mervin I am pretty sure they wernt father and son as they were more or less the same age. I seem to remember that they drove a Renault or Tanscon but it was so long ago I am not sure.I did bump into Peter a few years back and he was driving a fridge for another firm down the west country. Thanks for your post anyhow regards Geoff
