Hi John I can recall hearing people talk of a Jose but don’t know what company, the only one that comes to mind is cisternas but I know you worked with them.

Cliff he was there at the beginning I went to see him in Wyvern office when they were setting it up, that’s why I asked but it was a long time ago and we still reciprocate work with Henry at Cargo Refrigeration formally Cisternas, handy chap to have as an acquaintance as he is half Spanish and speaks the lingo well, got us out of much trouble through the years over there. He comes to our family do’s almost a relation and we call him uncle Henry, Buzzer.

Yesterday I attended the funreal of Dean Whitbread who died at the very early age of 52, Dean was very successful in his career in transport spending the last 20 something years at Wyvern Cargo. I started shipping out of Poole in 1974 when G.J .Cooper used to make our T.Forms for customs, I think I am right in saying Dean came to work for Coopers straight from school in the late 70s. So I think he deserves a mention on this thread. Dean Whitbread R.I.P.
Cliff.

Cliff was dean the lad with longish ginger hair and bit chubby? used to call everybody sh4g? was well known with Ralphies men. I 1st used coopers 1989 and got to know them lads quite well. the age will be about right …

Hi. No that is not the same man I think he is on trucknet as Deanb . He is a good friend of Ralph Davies drivers because he phoned me a couple of years back to invite me to a party for Ralph driver.I think by 89 Dean would have moved to Pan European in Hayes.

 Yes Steve I stopped there one trip on the way home at the weekend with a lot of Swedish drivers I was running home with as I had an Aquilla trailer with little wheels had a puncture and no spare. We stopped at Caia and swapped wheels with those that had spares and ran to Bayonne Sunday night where we slept and Monday morning they called the Michelin tyre man to repair all the punctures. While he was repairing the tyres they set up a smogesbord breakfast in the garages kitchen out of their trailer boxes. When the tyre man came back we paid our bills ran together to Bordeaux and parted company where they went north on the N10 and I went the N137.Happy days

In the late 70’s there was a Jose that worked/owned Speed Freight European in Poole…I believed it was a forerunner of GBE, paintwork, logos etc were very similar.

Yes, you are right Gazzer ,Jose along with Don Richardson,Steve Chambers and Steve Tremayne were Speedfreight European before Jeff Duval bought it and turned it into GB Express later to be GBE.

The only truck I remember that SFE had, was a sleeper cabbed 7.5tonner or like that (2 axle rigid). Mercedes?

Yes,right again Gazzer it was one of those Mercedes with the doors at the sort of at the back of the cab ( not as bad as the BMC one ) there was also a Bedford TK ,several of us used to do traction for them in unmarked (TIP ) trailers.
