Shipping out of and into Poole

Baldrick1953:
Strange, but the name of one of the guys came to me this morning. Ove! I wonder if it’s the same one, or maybe it’s a really common Swedish name!
Any ideas on the company? As I said , the ones I recall had blue / white Scanias. Top kit obviously.

Cheers,
Stu.

Hi Stu I am sorry I cant remember the name of the company Ove drove for.The company with the blue and white scanias I seem to remember a chap called Jacky who had driven for them for a long time, but I reckon Shady could tell us a lot more of their names.Cheers mate

Loved shipping through Poole always party time because you would know everyone on the ferry.

I used to meet up with plenty of those boys when I was on the Portugal run…great bunch of subbies, names elude me except for Merv the Swerve( Brown Transcon ?) I remember an OD with a Blue and White Transcon too. If I remember correctly Aquila did alot of Kodak to Lisbon and when we were weekended some of us went to The Founders Inn in Estoril, but thats another story !!   They used to clear and wait to tip in Lisbon near some railwaylines, cant remember the name and I used to see them in Alverca customs and en-route through Irun, Villa Formoso and Badajoz borders via Salamanca. There was talk of a convoy of used trucks and trailers stacked up to be delivered overland to Mombassa, I had my name down but it never materialised. :frowning: I mostly shipped through Boulogne but sometimes through Poole with Truckline Ferries. One hit to the Boulogne boat from Oporto on a Friday night loaded with shoes for BSC Leicester…Oh dear. tut tut…
Great times.
GS

BSC shoes was owned or part owned by the husband of Manuella de Caldevieria who was the boss of the British Int office of Tim Allen in Porto, it was accepted and normal to do one hits from Portugal to the French ferry ports.
Load Friday night or Saturday morning and be be booked on the ferry on Sunday night or Monday morning.

Sorry to hear the sad news of the passing of Wrecker Matthews he was a great character I had some great crossings with him on Truckline ,also with other Atkins drivers a few I recall Noby Clarke, Mick Bowers ,Pete Gower, Michelle Prime, used to be a lot of spoofing games including Alain the steward on the Coutances.
That’s a great photo Dean ,Papa Numpty will like that.

Now, there’s a face I recall from Eons ago…
Who did Pat work for?

Hi Baldrick, Pat worked for Kelvin Holloway first on Aguilla then MAT.

I guess it was in the Kelvin era…
How’s Merv doing these days…? 81 is he this year?

Hi Baldrick it may have been when he worked for Reg Bugler as he was on for him after Shaun Hammond who was after me. I haven’t spoke to Merv for a few weeks but the last time he was fine.Cheers mate
