Harry Evers of Sebastopol street Ancoats Manchester FODEN
Got a pm today from Alan Bacon who is the brother of James Bacon who lent me the photos I recently posted and he was saying he has more photos knocking about from the family business and he also mentioned about the breakdown truck that foden46 was on about and he says it was an American Fordson with a v8 petrol engine fitted,he also said that it had a gun turrett fitted to the roof and a rope winch that could be operated from inside and outside the cab and also that he cannot ever remember it running on all 8 cyl but it still pulled like a trouper and he last drove it in the late 70s.Lets hope he finds the photos.

Hi Steve .I remember Munro when they were running lorries from the depot which was on Lightbowne Road. The place is still there and the last company to run lorries from there were the Barrs soft drinks company which I believe purchased the Tizer company in the 70s .Barrs must have outgrown it because they have moved to premises on Hollinwood Ave.
I thought I recognised that place: I used to deliver chemicals to the firm who were in the more modern building immediately to the left of the Tizer depot. I was waiting for them to open one morning when plod arrived and told me I’d have to move as he wanted to set up a speed camera right where I was parked.
Of course, I complied with his request.
NOT!

Hiya John,
You’ve just made my day … how ever did you find a photo like this, I didn’t think there would be one in existance.
Well done mate.
Plevins based in Mossley what a load of miserable tossers they are all ■■■■ frit
of the bloke who calls himself transport manager I wouldn’t let him run a bath for me coz he would f#ck it up . They seem too look after the Manchester boys ok & f#ck the drivers from other depots around uk about, ie drivers from the south east get sent to mcr for the week & drivers from mcr get sent to Norfolk alweek when the south east drivers are less than 1 hour from Norfolk. So that’s how they treat you at mossley which is a shame coz it’s a good job run by a ■■■■■■■■■
Back in the 70’s there were 2 seperate Plevin’s based in Hyde, Plevin Haulage was general haulage ran by his brother. Does anyone remember them, I think they were mainly D800’s in dark blue and really rough looking. I heard the haulage side was always at a loss with the wood chip side always bailing them out until they moved to Mossley.
One of Reyner’s drivers went driving for them about 12 years ago and gave them a glowing report saying how clean and well organised their Mossley yard was.
i remember the one just off ashton road in dukinfield paul in the mid 80s . tackle looked a bit rough and they had a reputation for their , ahem , cavalier approach to tachograph regulations … allegedly . cheers , dave
