When I was on the agency last century, they sent me down to 6336 at Banbury to take a load up to North Wales - One drop = 2 Pallets in a 7½ tonne puddlejumper.
I found the drop which was a small wholesaler and there was a long queue of trucks, large and small waiting to get tipped, so I just tucked in behind. The driver in front said just wait - no need to take the paperwork until they were ready.
After about half an hour a fork lift came roaring up to me and the gut went off on one because I hadn’t told them I was there - apparently what I had was urgent.
Can you imagine the looks I got from drivers who had been queuing for hours, as they pulled me out, tipped me double quick and sent me on my way. I did give them a friendly wave to cheer them up

Mixer drivers were the worst, “Timed delivery mate” was the usual cry when were parked on the same site waiting to tip tarmac etc and they wanted to get past. It didn’t seem to matter that WE were also on a “timed delivery” and were losing money sitting there!
At another job I was backed into a bay to tip a load of tarmac (for bagging) and was just opening the taildoor when a powder tanker drew across my bows and coupled up to a silo! I explained that I would be literally two minutes and once he started blowing I could be ‘trapped’ for an hour, he refused to move so I went to see the Manager. After a few minutes of arguing with the driver the Manager got him shifted and off I went, why some folk just have to be so ‘bloody minded’ that they cannot work alongside others I cannot fathom, we all have a job to do but a few minutes either way wont hurt surely?
Pete.
Mixer have mostly an hardener in the Concrete, and the Pump cant stop when it has started. So they look to have the Lorries rather queueing on the Pump rather then in the Traffic.
