Hi again,Toddy2…I’m not gonna stop mate,it struck me that the pics are now getting a bit bland as the best ones have been put on…I could tell because the feedback was less than usual…I’ve consolidated the clippings into 2 shoeboxes now so when theyve been put on then its back to plan “B”…my crappy photos
Todays stuff.
The last one is for Telekonsteve
Cheers Bubbs,
Cheers bubbs I’ll put it with my collection, tar very much.
I think the replies are becoming less as it’s still the holiday season M and quite a few lads may be away or have their minds on other things. Please don’t become disenheartened by the lack of replies as the scrapbook thread is still good value - Much better than the latest issue of C+VC!
It’s still the first thing I look at when I come on (unless there’s been a reply on the Tarmac thread ) and could only be made better if there were a few more 70s quarry tippers included!
More power to your elbow squire and may the SB thread live long!
The Metco Fiat was in the same group as Glixsten Doors from Hull. after the amalgamation International Timber became huge.
I’m still loooking in but some days it takes ages for the photos to appear on screen. I didn’t know Hartwells of Kidlington did Tanker hire; I though they were all about pushy cocky car sales reps
hiya,
Marc you gotta believe me the interest is still as big as ever just put elderly BRS and ancient Bowker pics on and I’m “agog” and quickly get the one finger typing mode into action.
thanks harry long retired.
Hello again lads,Hey…I’m pleased that the scrapbook is still on track,I could see by the number of views that its going ok,Harry I’ll try to sort something out for you mate…I’ve deliberately not put any BRS and Bowkers pics up as I get concerned about your blood pressure…we cant have you getting too excited at your age
Todays stuff.
Cheers Bubbs,

Road Tankers Northern
Frank Newell started the business just after the Gulf War January 1991, when he recognised there was an opening for the manufacture of road tankers to compliment his already successful haulage and fuel business. Initially Mr Brian Edwards (ex Hartwell’s) started the business with a small office and telephone. Brian’s objective was to fill a large workshop with road tanker orders for new remount or repairs. Experienced technicians were recruited and with a lot of hard work from Frank, Brian and their team, the business began to grow in the first year.
More experienced personnel were also recruited such as Clive Felton, Alan Oldfield in Sales together with John Cook in Design. All ex Kennings Road Tankers, they brought with them a wealth of experience, which further enhanced the business.
By 1993, RTN was building over eighty new road tankers a year and was fast becoming a name to reckon with in the oil industry. The following year, Frank decided that building tank vessels was essential to further progression so Don McKelvie was recruited as tank production manager.
In 1995 the company had far outgrown its premises in Sheffield so a move to Hoyland near Barnsley was made. The present site is ideally situated just one mile from the motorway and has excellent facilities, five overhead cranes, three large tank and fitting workshops and space for sales and storage of road tankers and chassis.
This has always been and hopefully continue to be the most interesting thread. It creates debate and most of all brings back memories of a transport past that has gone forever. I,m only glad that I was there and can relive it and am grateful to you for your preparedness to keep it going. Thanks Marc.
hiya,
Just hope the Missus doesn’t read your acknowledgement/heading or she would be urging you to root about in the “box” and hopefully get me mobile, but don’t take any notice Marc she won’t be bothering you her only interest in the transport game was the pay packet on Friday, but I did get to keep the “exes”, I’ll keep looking in though I couldn’t do without my daily fix of “scrapbook” I can live without Scania 80s and Volvo 86s though but I think you may be aware of that, bleedin rubbish.
thanks harry long retired.
The old Leyland is waiting for Harry.
Cheers Phil.
1Hi, I was at Livingston mot station today and was handed a hard back book by one of the vosa guys,He had heard me and another vosa inspector talking about the old days (38 years ago).He said have a read of this and bring it back tomorrow. What a read its called {views from the north photographed by Roger Kenney}. If there is any way this can be put on this site it would be a great read, but i think copyright etc will prevent this, What a shame as these photos bring back a lot of memories. This is a photo of me a long time ago working for an Aberdeen company,After this was taken i went back on the fuel tankers with ici petrol in grangemouth happy days, matt.

Bubbleman knows this cannot be done as it would be infringing the publisher’s copyright. Further more the publisher owns the original Kenney negatives and their associated intellectual property rights. I would suggest people buy a copy of the book from the publishers Nynehead Books who publish road transport books under their Roundoak imprint.
thanks retriever ,it is a great book and if anyone can get a copy buy it as it shows all about driving many years ago ,some long gone companies as well .matt.

There will be more books on the photographs of Roger Kenney coming once Roundoak / Nynehead have finished scanning. Then captions will need to be written.
