Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Hello again,more from me.

Cheers Bubbs,

Is that a “Swindon Truckstop” sunscreen in the Man. . . collectors item or what? :open_mouth:

That Renault is an oddity, I had a Berliet that was a year or two older than that (a V reg IIRC) the Turboliner roof was different to that and I had an E reg on demo brand new when they first came out on the 340s, that was a TR280 or TR305 and the roofline is similar to the French market version, which was itself as rare as rocking horse emissions, it’s also got a weird air intake poking up on the right hand side of the cab, a tidy conversion, but I would guess it was homemade

hi bubbs

Consider this photo for a moment.

A ‘J’ Plate (1970-71) AEC Mercury(?) in the same shot as a ‘C’ Plate (1985-86) Leyland Roadrunner. The Ergo has at least 14 years service by this point & still looks tidy. Axminster’s vehicles were always immaculatley turned-out. Nothing wrong with AECs.

XOD493K now resides with GA Newsome & has been restored to a very high standard. Perhaps, somebody can oblige with a recent photograph of her?

Looks like a D-Series Ford to the left of XOD.

Any more of these Marcus?

Many thanks, Andrew Stone.

Hi again, good pics from Marcus22…thanks for sharing them mate,Suedehead…dead right, the Hills AEC is seen opposite the Ridgeway cafe on the A4…one of my pal Adrians shot
Todays pics.

Cheers Bubbs,

Great pic of Street’s Iveco rounding up the High line Dodge Bubbs.

Do you have any pics of their old Maggies please mate?

All the best, Andrew

A bit of history for this one:

It was new to S. John Haulage of Bedford, one of a batch of five with consecutive numbers, AVE 483V and 484V were never painted in S. John livery. 483V in Marcs photo (above) was written off within it’s first year of service, it ended up on its side with its cab burried in a hairdressers on the A23 in Purley along with 22 tons of coal slurry intended for Brighton power station.

Looks like someone straightened the chassis and mounted a new shed on it. :unamused:

It was the indicator/sidelamp ‘tabs’ that gave it away to me

John Shep always used to keep his wagons tip-top. A joy to see one again.

Hiya,Some good stuff been put on since yesterday

Pebbles(Andrew)The shot of the 2 Axminster carpets AECs is the only one I’ve got mate…sorry.

NZ Jamie,Yes I do have some pics of Streets 232s but I didnt take them and my pal wont let me put them on here…again, sorry.

Scandiahamn(Nick) Great info on AVE483V mate, like Mark R I love stuff like that too.

Marcus22,excelent pics once again mate

Phil…more gems from you too.

And finally Dennis, you liked the shot of Febrys Comet…how about the first shot on todays selection.

Cheers Bubbs,

Hiya Marcus,It’s probably my Internet connection thats “slow” as I’ve got the Brady headboard on the shot but ‘nowt else!! on the other hand you may be just on the "wind up"to set me “off” !!! only joking mate,it may appear fully, in time,I’ll just keep my fingers crossed! Your still a “star” Bubbs, the site would be a lot poorer if you jacked in!! Regards Dennis.PS please disregard this last post,It’s all there now! Yea I remember this Comet although it was a getting a bit long in the tooth when I was there and had had a hard life! Brady’s did run a good number of Comets/4-in-lines in the late 50’ early 60’s and then gradually put more Beavers and Badgers into service.I can re-call that they only got one Ergo Comet and one Ergo Badger,IIRC. This Comet HEO 3 would be circa 60/61 as the other Octopus was HEO557 and there was a 680 Power Plus Beaver HEO 678 and these two motors were '61 vintage I believe.
