No. It’ is a Diamond T 980 which in it’s former military life was a tank transporter prime mover.

Thst Seddon brings back memories, Troughtons Transort had a new unit like that back in 1966 it was driven from new by Tony Shepherd & used to pull a tandem axle trailer with a single deck cattle box on it.
There looks to be a lot of history sitting in Rush Greens yard, I’d like an hour wondering round there myself.

Leyland Martian and a Thornycroft - not Thornicroft.

No. It’ is a Diamond T 980 which in it’s former military life was a tank transporter prime mover.
And formed the basis of many of the pioneering road trains in the Northern Territory of Australia immediately after the 2nd world war.
There were loads of them used there as tank transporters as the rush to defend the north against Japan continued but afterwards it was cheaper to flog them off rather than ship them all back to the States. The early entrepreneurs financed it all with government contracts to clear the north of hundreds of thousands of empty 45 gallon oil drums and the sight of dozens of trailers piled high with drums snaking south must have been a common sight in the late 40s.
The Brits got back in as fleets were built and renewed with Atkinsons, ERFs, Leylands and AECs but especially Fodens.
You’ve guessed the rest. They took their eyes off the ball and the Yanks were back. Now the Europeans are there in numbers. Too bad the Brits no longer exist.
