TynesideThat’s an interesting shot of the old Scotch Corner and I wonder if the Hotel was closed down when that shot was taken as there are no cars parked outside ? And you can see which is the busiest road by the black stains on the A1 and not much stain on the A66 ! Cheers dennis.
I think we’ve been here before with that picture, or one similar.
Would I be right in thinking that the Scotch Corner cafe was on the right hand side (northbound) of the road that disappears bottom left of the picture, and that became the slip road to it.
I can’t cast my memory back to pre-dual carriageway days but I must have travelled it. I only remember the cafe being on the slip road, I did use it occasionally but if I was going to Glasgow I would carry on to Stainmoor, which I much preferred.
Just had a bit of a Google and see that it was dualled and then by-passed. Anybody got any idea of the 2 dates. Got me scratching my head a bit.

What was the Clock Cafe is now a Travelodge which we use several times a year. That is on the left of what was the old A1 northbound, now it runs parallel to the new A1M and connects the roundabout in the pic with Brompton on Swale and Catterick Village.
