What is the reasoning behind Trilex wheels, I remember seeing them in my Observers book as a kid on continental lorries.

Bumped up a thread on this, which you may find answers your question

And here’s the link to it, for future reference:

Cheers Robert, very interesting, I can see the advantages, but also the disadvantages.

bloody annoying when they loosen off , ‘leave them alone’ was the instruction from the FIAT dealer , so i did , and the sodding n/s front spun round and chopped the valve off , instant flat tyre.

I’d happily put up with the SA 400 (if fitted with ■■■■■■■ / Fuller) but I never liked those step-frame tilts - you needed to be tall to flip the back flap onto the roof!

Yes, I know what you mean, especially at White Trux where they also suffered from the same ills as the other ones, missing and ill fitting boards. :frowning:

That last Trader is 6 wheel drive. Would it have had enough power for the job is was given?

Perhaps it is not a Trader, just something bigger with a Trader cab plonked on top, although I admit it would sit a bit higher if so. A bit like the TK perched like a pimple on a giant yellow Cat engine I saw in Oz once.

A couple of those Bedford cabs were also plonked NH Mack chassis and running gear.

Could the Trader be an ex military special having all that drive ?

It’d be interesting to know where this location is too. I wonder if the Littlewoods building is still standing.

Thames Trader 6x6 tractor.jpgObviously an ex-WW II truck (GMC CCKW, Diamond T, etc…) with a Trader cab which suits it perfectly! A very neat job. This kind of re-cabbing was very common in France in the 1950s and 60s, using Citroën or Berliet cabs.

The location is Dudley and the Scania is a 112m day cab belonging to Multiple Fruit Supplies, part of Glass Glover Distribution,Maltby.I worked for them 1978-1994 until the Littlewoods contract finished and only delivered there on nights,we had security keys and tipped ourselves.Wheh we started delivering chilled/frozen products the deliveries were done on days.I think Pete Booth was the driver and from memory reg was OWG 62X Fleet 381 or 382.Another three photos taken by same CCTV.

Chris.
