One for Nathan, I bumped in to Alan on the tip Saturday morning and got him to pose for you, all the Bison’s long gone and I took a shot of the “cycling ferret” motif for you as well, Cheer’s Pete

Nice one Pete. What’s GW roadstone then, part of Midland Quarries?
Bill Keith of W Keith & Sons, Flookburgh, has been mentioned several times on here.
There is a recent notice of death in the ‘North West Evening Mail’ of his sister Margaret of Grange. Her age isn’t stated, but I would guess late 80s, early 90s.
The article states ‘sister of the late Errington Keith’.
I liked and got on well with Bill, whose blue and red motors - mainly Guys, were seen throughout the sixties, seventies and eighties - but I would never have called him ‘Errington’!
John.

Not sure Nathan, I think it is Alan’s design, here is a photo of a Bison I used to drive that was based in same yard as Alan’s fleet, I think you have put a photo of her on here somewhere when she was nearly new, she had a yellow ish cab I think but the same body on till she was scrapped in early 2000’s, Cheer’s Pete
Hi All !
You’ll like this, not a lot…
Bear with…
My brother has an Audi A1. During a drive, down a long gentle slope, I noted how well it kept its speed and thought it must be quite aerodynamic. Having done a little digging on the fora regarding a slight misfire, while browsing, I discovered this idea that the clever electronics may well have decided that while foot off the gas ‘free-wheeling’ is what I thought I was doing, it turns out that IT decides to keep a bit of gas on to keep it going. So it looks like I’m now going to have to retest the thing either with the ignition off or out of gear to get a true feel of how well the aerodynamics allow it to maintain speed on a gentle down ward slope.
That’s when the gears in my brain churned round and threw out a technical term. Clearly, do the retest and as we say in technical circles, ‘knock it out of stick’. I thought ‘wow’ and wondered what Dr Internet had to say about that - so ‘Googled’ it. The only returned listing was on this thread !

by heck dennis , i’ve had some interesting moments heading for that bridge . when you are going down in silent overdrive and you see one of charlie alexanders coming t’other way , it made the pulse race a bit !!! them jocks took no prisoners , daveYour right there Dave! Once you could see the road was clear “knock it out of stick” and you dropped like a stone and got a run up’t 'tother side.Cheers Dennis.
This does bring back memories of ‘Dad’ and the case of the householder who was sick of having trucks run into his house going downhill too fast for the obvious reasons. So, to slow 'em down, he used to stand at the side of the road stood next to a loose stood-up railway sleeper (wood of course). Should he feel any truck was going too fast, he’d let the sleeper drop into the road.
Talking of me Dad…

Hi again,heres todays offering
Hiya… thats another quite rare motor i would think. I’ve never seen a split screen on that type
of cab before on a AEC…well done bubbs…
johnWhen he wants petrol, he gets it. Seriously - in the following case, so seriously, he took a photo (thankfully) of the occasion. Based on 3300John’s offering, you’ll like the pic.

That Mercury was reg’d in Stirling C C in Dec.1960,so she’s not an old model.I can’t add anything different from what 3300 John said, just seems summat out of place for a Mercury unit.Shell Mex and BP bought a lot of Mercury units with single axle tank trailers but I’ve never seen one with a split screen.
'appen I’m not old enough to remember…I wish
So, you wanna Shell tanker ■■?
Well, I’ve a special offer:
2 for the price of 1:
In colour - but not necessarily in focus !
Hiya,
Er’ weren’t the majority of Mk5 Mercury’s and Mandator’s “split screen” I drove
plenty and can’t ever recall driving any other, until the Ergo’s came out.
thanks harry, long retired.
It looks as if theres a problem at the service station causing them to transfer product one to the other . I cant see why two lorries should be at such a small garage at the same time.
It depends on who built the Mercury cabs if they had single or split windscreens. Probably all pre-1962 Mercurys had split windscreens.
Always liked the look of the AEC’s,a few of Butlers from Maltby. The colour pic of the AEC was the first lorry I went in as a 11yr old thought it was great until winter came & found out it had no heater.I used to stand at the top of Grange Lane in Maltby waiting to be picked up after my paper round chilled to the bone hoping to get warm in the cab,fat chance of that the driver informed me.I still had a smile on my face at the end of the day I would not have missed it for all the tea in china,I loved it.Spent the next 6 yrs going in various vehicles until I left school & started working for Butlers as a car mechanic at the British Leyland dealership they had.Is their any difference between the two cabs on the 6 wheelers?I am no expert on cab design.

Mmmmn , NURSE, quick, I’ve done it again. …
The colour shot of the Marshal looks like a Park Royal cab, the black and white looks to be an Oswald Tillotson cab. There were at least six builders of Mercury cabs.

Mine was a 1964 model, with Park Royal cab and single-piece screen.

hiya,
What have they done to the last one Marc it’s a bit of a horror they’ve actually made a mess of my dream motor, in your words a shed how can someone be so cruel someone should forcibly remove his hammer and nails and tie his hands behind his back.
thanks harry long retired.
i Have a picture of it at Witton Castle in the early 90s i thought it was a work in progress

Hiya kindle, it was the M500 DAF reg that caught my eye, but I now am also not 100% sure, maybe if somebody has a photo of the motor in the blue livery it will decide it, but hey, you may be right.
Hi there. This was David’s truck while my dad worked with him on traction work for whittles based in bamber bridge in Preston. I used to go with my dad. This was taken about 1987/1988.
I’ve here’d that david passed away. Is this true ?
When we run with him he’d been divorced, just that’s why he’d bought the truck.
Can anyone elaborate a bit more. He was a great lad. If he’s passed away. Cheers.
