Dobsons, they were part of the Tayforth group IIRC,I drove for Forth 69 to73 i used to fuel up in their yard when i was in Edinburgh.
Hi all when i first moved to the south westi lived near the transport manager for Dobsons of Edinburgh, at the time they were running out of ESSO in Avonmouth to RAF ST MAWGAN & RAF Lyneham etc with aviation fuel,he offered me a job on there and said thats what i would be doing. This was 1965 and i was recently married and as the job entailed two weeks on days and two weeks on nights my wife was not impressed also the money was not all that good so i turned it down, i kicked myself for some time afterwards as tanker money soared
but i guess thats life, but this reminded me of this guy a dark haired scotsman whose name i can not recall Take Care Melv.

If I remember rightly in the Taunton Cider days of the cream and brown livery were not the marque names removed from the front of the artic tractors?
At the weekend I came across by chance a Leyland Octopus tanker of 1950s vintage restored in Taunton Cider green livery. I have seen this vehicle before with its oval tank and I have always doubted its livery. Now I lived on Greenway Road in Taunton from 1955 - 1975 and never once did I see such a vehicle. What I can remember were a number of Green liveried Bedford ‘O’ series consisting of cab and chassis which carried demountable square tanks of around 500 gall. capacity.
Here`s a couple of Henry Longs motors the first is a Leyland RAF ■■? can anyone help me out with its age ? and the second is a Mandator at the LDOY comp in coventry i think, and the third is the Longs annual trip ,hope Bubb dont mind me posting them on here

We used to run up & down the M5 on night trunk with some of the Taunton Cider boys, one who’s CB handle sticks out in my mind was Red Setter. The one fleet I recall who had all the identity removed from it’s vehicles was Bass Charrington. Their nearest depot to us was in the old Gossington bridge cafe site on the A38 just south of Gloucester.

I thought it was the other rotten apple squad from Hereford that ran unmarked (big green Volvo’s) I think. Used to see them flying up and down the A49 (Hereford to Warrington and back wouldn’t have been a bad nights work in the day - or night!)
