Scania r560 topline v8- mpg?

i drive a 620 v8 about 5 years old runs at 40ton gross wen mt its doing between 10 to 11 to the gallon when fully loaded it runs at about 8 to the gallon not bad for a v8 dont beleive all they say about thirsty v8s more
power the less gear changes means less fuel

You’re running a little fast at 57/58mph, try knocking it down to anywhere along the way to 52mph & this should improve your fuel economy.

What’s the initial cost of an R560 compared to a 440 ?

It is all about the driver. Not the truck… I have got 10 V8 scania’s, 2 x R500, 2 x R560, 4 x R620, 2 x R730. This picture is from a R730. Over a 950km journey the DRIVER averaged 9.03mpg… That’s not bad in my opinion.

The R560’s are all on a similar fuel returns… Gentle drivers that nurse the truck up to top speed are the best ones.

Yep I second this, in my 750 at 40 tonnes on motorway work I get between 9 and 9.5 mpg. I never feel the need to hammer it though and drive it with economy in mind all the time. I’d also like to add the time I save even in the UK is startling. Never slowing on hills soon adds up.

Hi Luke do you still have Berty as a topliner passed me today with one on the dash. Maybe his long lost brother

Luke, I seen you on the A419 at Birdlip a month or so ago… Trucks looks amazing mate. A credit to you. (ps, do you flash coaches to get out of the way when going up the hills on the limiter… lol, my 730’s do. haha)

Why tank you very much! I’ve not had that chance yet, hopefully soon! Got to try it up the M62 today full weight, dropped about 3kmh while it staying in top gear all the way. You’ll probably agree that surprisingly big power can pay, the fuel consumption is good and the time saved is fantastic. More companies in Ireland are starting to go for 560 and above simply because they are so good. This 750 is much better on fuel than my R440 ever was and that’s amazing! Between Holyhead and Dover I reckon I save half an hour over that as well.

A v8 definitely does depend on a driver, I was doing 840km round trip with precast concrete (44ton one way, 15ton return on a hilly route) in a 143 on a regular basis using 300litres, sometimes a gallon more, and the other driver in that truck with same load couldn’t do it any less than 350L, he had more experience but just heavy footed…

Well i havent bought it! Sorry shouldve said the company i work for got it… Anyway that aside, does 7mpg seem normal for pulling that kind of weight?

I regularly get 8 to 9 mph at 44 tonne, on a run from Immingham to Aberdeen, in a 65 plate Volvo FH500

I usually work out per tankfull at L/100km but worked out at mpg its around 8.2mpg average on a 2000km run from Malaga to Calais/ Reims at 44t. I dont run a Scania V8 but an FH 500 remapped to around 570hp and find its more economical than my old F12 400. The more power/torque you have doesnt always mean more fuel and a larger capacity engine tuned for big power will always outlast smaller less powerful engines.

then just ignore all the tosco type fanys smirking as they take your mirrors off…crack on flat to the mat unless your boss moans, then nurse it a tad.no point n not playing with your toys.

on the flat always cruise c.if its auto your mpg will increase if most the time u have it in manual u can see the road the computer cant also less changing down means more mpg that truck at 44ton will lug down to 1000rpm while still in top

Yeah, my Actros does that for the 1st 20 mins or so… :unamused:

We have two R480’s. One gets 7.2mpg the other 9.6. Both on same work.

I just wish I got a fuel bonus. I don’t drive like it’s Sunday either.

MPG is mainly down to the driver, not the truck.

Currently getting 5mpg in a 440 man! Driving with economy in mind.

Pulling a bathtub bulker, but only loaded 1 way and a livestock trailer, but not often at big weight, but 22.5t empty. Pretty much never see a motorway or dual carriageway and in a hilly area

Quite a bit of time idling whilst loading and washing the trailer. I know I’m not doing the norm, but unless you’re doing the same work on the same roads then comparison don’t really mean a great deal to me

So which v8 is the best comprimise. The 520 v8 didnt sell too well is more hp better…in the right hands.

ad blu was already off when i bought it, and exhaust was already done and it was doing about7.5/8.5 at 44t, but with it mapped at 44t it will drop to around 8.5/9.5
