SGH european,s 141,they were based at thames industrial estate in factory road london e16 back in the late 70,s and 80,s.The company was run by Derek Best who had G Parks of harlow in the early 70,s.It is now called inter european freight services and based off the A13 at barking. This lorry was driven by Malcome Taylor from new and i drove it a few times when he was on holiday. He went inside for a few years for tobbaco import and the lorry was then driven by Jimmy Todd who normally took his wife with him doing benelux trips.Jim came from JC who had a fleet of green mercs that had a yard off old ford in east london and done chip board out of zeebrugge.

cheers Graham - I’ll have to ring DFDS see if they have photos from the booking in gate

I took this shot of the shunt tractor at a feedmill at Masham just a couple of weeks ago. It was very dusty as it was a windy day and the trailer park was like a dustbowl . Some shunter eh■■?

BJ Services had some 142s at Gt.Yarmouth and the firm I worked for would maintain them and supply drivers to ferry them to and from the oil/gas drilling sites, the reason for this was because their operators didn’t have HGV licences. Sometimes they would bring you home in a company car or take you to the nearest station to catch a train home. If it was going to be a “quick” job you would hang around maybe for a day or so then bring the truck back to Gt.Yarmouth. Odd times it would be a night in an hotel with their lads and you were well fed and “watered”. The motors were getting on a bit A and B reg. and in a bit of a state inside with equipment stowed on the beds and in the passenger side footwell, there was hardly room for your overnight bag, so no sleeping in the cab, they wouldn’t expect you to. One thing for sure though there was tons of overtime. Happy days( and nights). Hopefully here are a couple of photos, the first time I’ve ever scanned so fingers crossed here we go.Regards Haddy.

Took this one at carlisle in early 90’s, humberside reg me thinks.

Is / was that a show truck or a working truck?? Chromed sliders■■?

He must have run out of ink ticking the boxes on the optional extras page! This is the wagon it replaced, if I remember right he did low-loader work with it, but I stand to be corrected if I’m wrong!

Couldn’t run it over here, but it’s a bit special!
