How about some pictures of Scammell Crusaders, here’s one to start:
The last time I saw JVM896V it was owned by Pete Elwood from Hyde in cheshire. It was painted red, and was on contract to RSM in Trafford park,on the containers.
Hi Rocky 7, When was that? - I bought the motor in 1982 and traded it in against a Scammell Roadtrain T45 in 1984, it was blue and white when I bought it and blue and red when I sold it. I understood that it was owned by a welshman who used to run it to Greece before I got it.

S J BECKWITH CHELMSFORD ran a few,a lot of them had a home made sleeper pod on them copied of the original .they were made from fibre glass cast in a mould and done in there own workshop done by a chap called PETER cant rember his second name who worked for them on a self employed basis
mother trucker:
just thought of the fitters name at S J BECKWITH it was PETER JORDAN .a lad called COLIN KNAPP drove for them ,i think he works at ARLA at HATFIELD PEVEREL if anybody knows him he will have lots of photos of the scammells before BECKWITH he was at J A WILKINSON HATFIELD PEVEREL for a lot of years
Sorry to bump an old topic, but Colin Knapp is my dad
You’d be right in saying he has a shed load of Scammell photo’s, there’s a 2/3/4/5 year old me in some of the Beckwith/Bairds Malt ones. He’s slowly learning about the Internet, so maybe one day he’ll get round to uploading some

Here’s one picking a machine up from Remploy Leeds, this will be during the 1990’s, still grafting.
I was just looking at this picture and this must’ve been towards the end of production for the Crusader? It’s an ‘A’ reg which I have not seen many newer than this? anyone?

Seem to recall a batch of them were stored (destined for MOD or a cancelled order?) and registered late. I’m sure someone will know a bit more about it than that.
Hello C-Kay say hello to your dad for me I was the first scottish member of the Fifth Wheel Club and met your dad on quite a few occasions that was in the 80’s is he still into showland stuff he was dead keen. Eddie Waugh.
Hello Eddie, I shall pass that on for you mate . Yeah he still loves his show land stuff, and attends events still. Not much has changed when it comes to his interests
Hello everyone, first time poster here. Thought i’d share a few of my own collection with you
This one was taken at SJ Beckwiths yard in Chelmsford in the late 70’s. Notice the bumper on RME, which was homemade by Peter Jordan from a lump of chassis from an AEC Marshall
Another taken in Beckwiths yard, one of 4 purchased from Baileys of Westbury
Beckwiths first ever Crusader, originally a day cab, it was fitted with a sleeper cab taken from one of Baileys ex motors
An earlier one of RME, this time with the original bumper. This was an ex Reece Brothers from east london, where it did regular runs to Iran
This was purchased for spares, but when picked up it drove like a new motor and was spared the cutting torch, and fitted with a Beckwith Sleeper cab and put back to work
