Stumbled upon these at the docks, never saw 8 wheeled car transporters before, interesting trailer coupling as well, a fifth wheel turned upside down…
They look new; couldn’t they be waiting for shipment to NZ, where they love 8-wheelers?
They were brand new mate, they had just left the DAF works in Eindhoven I reckon
Aye, that’s what I thought as well, shipment to the Kiwi’s or Australia maybe?
I’ve posted some pic’s earlier on from a mate of mine who’s done some gigs in Ethiopia, well, he’s back up there and he took some pic’s which might be interesting to some of you gents…
That looks like an Alfa Romeo, with a special low cab, on the left. Those cars look nice, don’t they? Would you have a DS21 instead of a current Citroen/Ford/Whatever? I’d give twice the money, if I had half of it to begin with.

Do you mean your friend drove what looks like a transformer down from Europe to Ethiopia by road? Anyway, it’s most interesting to see how they manage to make their way through the mud with such an equipment!
Transports Guiltat were in Corvol l’Orgueilleux, at roughly an hour’s drive from where I live, and their premises were taken over by Transports Eric Rousseau, which run over a hundred trucks now.
Guiltat built this “bitza” tractor from a 1971 Berliet TAK 8, replacing its 8-litre 160 bhp 5-cylinder engine by a 12-litre 240 bhp 6-cyl, which necessitated the protruding radiator. According to what I was told, it was a great success, giving a good speed and a far better fuel consumption.
If ever any of you are interested, this unique truck is for sale in the area. I tried to start it, with a good battery, anf the only thing I managed was to switch on the headlamps. Both engine, clutch and rear axle look blocked.
Very close to the one on Patrick’s picture is this Latil TL 10, totally refurbished and still at work 3 years ago. I took the picture in Lormes, in the Morvan area. According to its sound, the Gardner engine looks in very good form!

I would go for the DS21 as well mate, still doesn’t look outdated to this day, just imagine the impact it had when it was presented to the public in 1955…
But it’s a Citroen, bearing in mind the luck I had with some models of Citroen make, I would stuff enough parts and tools that would fit in the boot
Loved that BX GTI I once had, although for a very brief period, it absolutely made quite an impression!

No it’s not that “exotic” mate Everything’s get shipped to Djibouti docks and from there on it travels further inland on the back of a lorry, still quite challenging though, he needed 14 days to cover 600km…

That’s me at the wheel, trying to start the beast on a frosty 2016 January day.

It still has its genuine paint and marks.
How many of those "bull"noses were build Froggy? Or is this the only one? In that case it’s very much worth saving, isn’t it? Would love to get me hands dirty on a project like that, but I don’t have got enough room here I’m afraid…
Yes indeed, it’s an unique truck, and has been for sale for over 3 years now. Quite a lot of work, probably, but spares are quite easy to find, and the result would be worth it. I have no space for it and, moreover, do not fancy fiddling with dirty grease anymore.
Nevertheless, I can give the owner’s phone number to anyone interested. It’s resting in Torteron, some 20 kms NW from Nevers, under a shed with other trucks such as this ex-Swiss Army Saurer 3 DM in “close to mint” condition (4000€ asked for it at the time)
Hi Fergie trust you & yours are ok, just found this on FB of the border Hendaye/Irun between France & Spain in the 60’s and if you look hard ime sure I can see Mappo in there, can you spot him ? Buzzer.
