Maybe the Capri really was an icon…but I was too old for it!

Cheerio for now.

Ironically it was the Granada that was the better car.Wishbone front end semi trailing IRS as opposed to the Capri’s McPherson front and live axle rear.I often still wish that I’d put a 302 V8 into my old 2.8i and then kept it.Instead of getting rid of it and getting involved with more expensive to run Jags, because the V6 was just never enough in either the Capri or Granada.

Maybe the Granada was a better engineerd car, but it did lacked the looks of a Capri
It does raise the question why they never installed a V8 engine, there was enough room for it under the bonnet…

I’d sooner drive that Dutch-reg Daimler Conquest, (ten pictures up from here)! There was a bigger version called the Majestic. Robert

If only Hassan and Bailey had based the Jag V12 on the Daimler V8 pushrod Hemi instead of the relative zb to work on OHC V12.

That applied to all the old school big Fords from Mk1 Zodiac on and the same with Vauxhall Cresta etc.Having seen numerous conversions of same over the years it’s my guess that the American management actually always intended that option and designed for it.But were then over ruled by over conservative Brit/European marketing suits in production. :bulb: :frowning:

Here is one just for Fergie. My way of saying,“Thanks for all the great pictures.”

Awwwwwww…thanks Mr A…is that Mrs A at the ploughing competition ? looks pretty straight… and the guy with the stick, is that to whack her with if she goes off course ?

Mrs F did a bit of that when we lived in Cornwall, the farmers use to call her zigzag…not to her face mind, they may have been big old boys, but they weren’t that brave… :unamused:

Remember these Capri’s… Our very first visit to our local town some 13 years ago one like this was parked up outside the post office, few survived in the UK, let alone France, so it was amazing to see one…hope this one survived…I’m no car expert, but think the Capri was a 2 door door, and the Consul or Consul Classic ? was a 4 door…hope an expert can correct me if I’m wrong…

That last pic shouldn’t be there, it’s old Smithy waiting on his pork pie and chips… :unamused:

That’s a thumbs up for the info

Looks like he’s suffering from malnutrition to me.

Nice one’s once again Fergie… And that last one really does it, like :sunglasses:

Evening all,

pv83, Fergie, absolutely superb photographs, thank you…

So Robert would like the Daimler, pv the Capri…well Im rather taken by the Tempo Goliath three wheeler…that trailer looks to have coil suspension…Where can I get 1 tonne out and back loads…that are not urgent…(bet she is cheap on the Ferry).

Now then lay off Pete, he may like a Porcine Pie, but he is a fit, lithe, racing snake compared to that Gallic Saucison guzzler…
(who obviously from his expression, ordered the Flan, then found out that it was only a portion, not the whole thing)!

Cheerio for now.

Hiya Saviem,

That little Tempo Goliath featured some wee while back in a dutch classic vehicle mag. I think I’ve got that article still somewhere, will have a proper search tomorrow…
And now you’ve mentioned Flan… hmm proper desert that is :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers, Patrick

Edit post;
Had a search around the house, but couldn’t find it anymore, must have thrown it in the bin…

Remember we are talking “France” here, Patrick- he wouldn’t be expecting our lovely sponge-bottomed strawberry & cream concoction, he would probably be salivating over a Quiche Lorraine. Or some other foreign muck. Anyone for a chip buttie and a pint of Banks’ bitter?

Remember these Capri’s…

Consul Classic ? was a 4 door…

The Classic was identified by the ugly Anglia type reverse slope rear window as opposed to the much better lines of the Capri.
