Save money if nearing D4 medical time

At least we know that a change of address does not change the D4 expiry date

We now need another who has changed the photo in the last week or so

My photo expires next may, medical due at the same time… might give it a go & see what happens

UPDATE - its still works

Just renewed my licence as it required a new photo before 3rd of June. My C+E on the old licence showed an expiry date of 12-04-15, a couple of weeks after my 55th birthday but 5 years from my last renewal. Did the photo renewal online on Bank Holiday Monday 26/5 and it dropped through the letter box on Thursday, 29/5 with an expiry date for the C and C+E listed as 27-05-19.

Nice one Coffee, I went to the post office last Saturday to update photo, lady behind counter said the photo had only been done about 3 years ago, told her I still wanted to change it, then she said why don’t you wait till you do your medical at 50 in September, told her again I wanted to do it now, so she does it, payed the money, new licence arrived today, with photo updated and an expiry date of June 2019. happy days.
Can’t beat legal loophole to screw the system.
Oh and my DQC arrived this week as well, so now after 27 years trucking, I am a real “professional” driver, haha.

My company pay for all medical tests and physical examinations. At $150.00 for the actual physical that’s a good deal.

How it should be!

Mine’s due for renewal in September, my photo is eight years old and I have two expired endorsements to come off of my licence, I’ll post off the application at the end of June and let you know what happens.

I don’t think it works for the over 70s Harry!

It must be the first time that a driver has been issued with the new style licence so for those aged 65+ this is unlikely to be the case

Nice to see it still works in the same way it did for me

I made a post of this last year as I had to renew my photo. My licence should have expired February this year but like Robin hoods dad the new one came back with the expiry date the day before my 66th birthday. At which time I will be retired, so no more medicals.

It does not work if you have a medical condition, and are under the control of the medical examiners in DVLA. I tried it by sending off a new photo in February, although my licence was due for renewal in March, so all they did was send me the new D4 etc etc, and i am still waiting, they sent a letter to the Hospital for me to have a treadmill test, and i am waiting for the appointment ( over a week now )
I have sent letters to the big chiefs in Swansea complaining about the length of time, and how drivers can belosing a lot of money through their incompetence, anyway the reply was the normal ■■■■ one would expect from a government dept.
The other thing to note is they threatened to revoke my licence if i dont send them a date for my test within a month, yet my hands are tied by the hospital system…DOH !

Perhaps its certain conditions because I was on a short term 3 year expiry for my right eye but that got thrown out the window when I got my free 4+ years - I expect the 3 year eye thing will return at the next D4 in 2018

I understand Rog, it could have been because my 3 year treadmill test was due this year, but it seems that every year they put obstacles in my way, last year they said i had sleep Apnoea, this year they tried to do the same till i provided letters from the hospital, cant wait for the next one, ha ha

Here we go again, waiting for my D4 to drop through the letterbox, it was late last year so I downloaded one then just before my medical appointment the proper one arrived.
I had requested on line for the licence renewal document which arrived in the post, but this is slightly different inasmuch as it is the one used for applying for a new licence, OR, renewing an existing licence, whereas the one that should arrive in the post with the D4 is for renewing your licence only!
Why is it that you can request a hard copy licence renewal form but not a D4? but you can download a D4 but not a licence renewal form■■?
Perhaps they’ve noticed my age and think I shan’t bother, course I shall ■■■■■■■ bother, it’s my hobby! And, I’ve just paid two grand to have a cataract done so I can meet the new eyesight regs!

Nice one ROG.

I am 45 in March and would need a medical then to renew my licence but after reading this thread I dont need to until 2019.

Renewed my photo online on Monday for £14 and just had my new licence through the post today that expires Dec 2019.

Funny thing is is that the photo they used is the one from my passport which is the same as the old driving licence

So I now have a new old photo lol.

I imagine this will be the case until October 2017 as the new licences started being issued October 2012

Just to remind those reading - this can only happen the very first time you get a licence issued from October 2012
