Ohh yurrr never thought about that… Thanks mate…Duck, your a dunce!! Btw, I know it’s pretty big down in New Zealand… John Austin/Gavin Grain etc.
IF I go to the states I think Tim Demaray would be the man for me…
Only thing is I’m not a 100% convinced about harvesting. I thought it would be interesting to learn something new but whilst in Canada I just wished I could drive trucks only. I know I had a bad crew and the chances of it happening again are pretty slim but I wasn’t really feeling it. Don’t get me wrong, I’d have no qualms about helping out and driving a tractor or combine on the odd day but I prefer my own company most of the time. It’s hard work to fall out with anyone whilst alone in the cab of a truck (Although I once tried to have an argument with myself on the A17 in heavy traffic near Sleaford…it didn’t work, believe me!!! ).
Who knows? Maybe I’d feel differently if I was working with another group of people. I just wanted to drive the lorry in Sask. to escape from that ■■■■■■ everyday. Therefore I guess I’d have to give it another shot to be sure. I bet it’s a laugh once you know what your supposed to be doing right?
In any case, I’ve gotta stay in the U.K. for a while now, my bank balance is about the same shade of red as Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari
Who needs San Francisco that’s what I say… We’re living on “Alcatraz” island anyway…
At the harvest game in NA if you want to just drive truck then the custom cutter is usually happy enough to let you do that.
Some try to get you a bit of time on the combines and grain cart just for the experience and to give you a bit of variety.
There is not too much OTR driving though but you can get one/two day flat out truck driving hauling the machinery when moving “down south” or the big moves between jobs. altendorfharvesting.com will give you OTR trucking on a H2A temp harvest visa from March til Nov/Dec if you want.
As they run approx 30 new combines every season there are 3/4 truck drivers who for most of the time just haul the harvest machines from job to job, if you want solace this is the job for you
You can earn $4/5000us per month harvest trucking during the real busy times if the weather holds out.
You may well be allowed to sleep in the truck too but why when you can share a perfectly good camper with showers/air-con/TV/DVD etc
Pardon my cynscism(gremmie moment),but earning $4/5000 a month at the busy times equates to $60,000 per annum.Whoopy Doo,just prooves the old saying “you’ll never get rich driving a truck”.Probably decent money for a boghopper .
And I suppose you are trying to say that you were earning 100k during your brief stint as a driver? 60k for a local driver is good money by anybodies book really.

Yep,up around that figure working 4on/4off.Look hard enough and some well paid jobs in the Regina area. Some guys still offering $16 an hour wonder why they can’t get the staff.

That’s good money, I don’t know about SK, but you would be very lucky to earn that in MB, I’m not complaining though, I have, for the first time in my life, found a job where it would take a huge pay rise to even get me thinking about jumping ship, I’m very happy, you can’t put a price on that, didn’t imagine myself ever saying that, a couple of years ago I’d have been sending you PMs to try and get me a job at your place, hopefully my boss reads this and decides to reward my loyallty

It was good until I got laid off in Jan.Spent some of the summer working for a friend who has the contract at Evraz Steel for loading coils and removing scrap,he has guys on 80k for working 7 twelve hour shifts in 14 days, the money is there if you look hard enough.Just setting up a new venture which will see me up around my previous salary and I’ll be home every night, and it still involves driving truck. The old school employers are still here, but forward thinking companies are offering the bucks, just got to do a bit of homework to find them.
I hear you, and can well believe it, with all the oil & minerals in SK the wages are bound to have gone up, look at Alberta, they pay $16ph in Tim Hortons up in the oil sands and have to shut at night because nobody will work for that money
Manitoba is a bit different, but even though our money may be less, I’m happy with my lot, whichever way you look at it I’d rather be where I am today than back in the rat race in the UK
I hope you won’t forget all us poor truck drivers when you reach your pot of gold
