Perfectly safe as the load isn’t in motion, that must be where he is delivering or being loaded (I would be interested in how heavy that lot is though).
The driver is obviously just having a rest before applying more straps/ropes/sheet/net/clingfilm.
This day and age no numpty would drive with a load like this surely.
Using the DVSA matrix thingy this would be a prohibition I believe and a fine for the driver to boot.
He would be more likely to be caught though if this lot was on a curtainsider.

Could be worse than that, if VOSA see “any” movement in the load it could be an immediate £300 fixed penalty and a referral for both the driver and the haulier to the TC. Your right about the prohibition notice, but compared to having a chat with the TC I’d take a PG any day.
Of course it is safe. You couldn’t swerve with enough force to make a bulk bag on a swept wooden floor, without putting the lorry over for a nap.
That being said. We all know that particular load is VOSA man’s ■■■■■■■■■. He would think all his Christmas’s had come at once as he pulled his FPN book out.
I would have a net and some more straps over it. If what another person here said on the GRS thread a while is true then apparently VOSA will accept a net over the lot with 7 straps over the net. How true that is I have no idea…
See, this thread is an example of lads not knowing what to strap so just strapping everything even if it’s not needed.
That load is as safe as houses. A lot of stuff going over is down to the muppet behind the wheel taking the rounders too fast.
I’ve said it before, you’ll have to strap your johnson to your leg soon just to get in the cab.
I appreciate as someone else said recently that it’s a catch all approach by vosa just so that overkill might seep through to the imbeciles who don’t strap the stuff that needs strapping.

Say’s who?
Silver Surfers 20 or 30+ years experience, that’s who. What are you bringing to the table?
Any coal man would agree that’s safe, but hey if you work for stobbie n the likes you won’t think so, nuff said !
The drivers even more likely to be tugged after last week when Rick Yem on ‘Slightly Slippy Road Truckers’ lost a similar looking bag of stuff, (although i have my suspicions it was less than a realistic incident).
There is a danger though that load safety is taking a back seat as we secure the load to look good for VOSA rather than primarily thinking of the load itself.

.
I don’t agree completely with that, I’ll strap everything because that’s what the authorities ‘want to see’, it’s not the drivers fault he’s putting 10-13 straps over a load like this when experience tells us it’s unnecessary it’s the authorities.
Doesn’t bother me strapping the lot if it means the chance of getting a tug gets minimised as well as the risk of a fine I don’t want to pay I come to work to earn.
Dipper_Dave:
(I would be interested in how heavy that lot is though).
That load will come in at about 25,600kg. 32x800kg bags.

Thanks, no issues with weight then.
how do you know every bag has 800kg in it ? and as for the other numpties commenting negatively, its none of your business how any driver secures his load, in all honesty that exactly how i would have secured it, those bags are going absolutely no where, even with NO straps, my only worry is with VOSA who themselves merely follow the rules their bosses give to them on the way to milk hgv drivers of their hard earned cash, and all because some idiot in road research lab somewhere in outer mongolia, say that a bag of sand fell off of his donkey about 30 years ago.
Twoninety88:
Whatever way you look at it, it is an unsecured load.
The fact that because that type of load wont/has’nt moved countless times before, is irrelevant.
but the load is secure, the load consists of sand and the sand is secured inside the bags, not sure wether Vosa would agree but thats my take on it
( and i also would have no hesitation in pulling a load like that)
See this in Saudi Arabia all the time strapped like this. Havent seen any fall off yet and no vosa over here, such a relief its like normal driving again. Too much what if this or that happens in the UK. Vosa sheeple and alike coming up with ideas to enhance their pdr no matter how nonsensical.

Actually its everybodies business, if they use the roads and feel a load is unsafe on another vehicle they have a right to bring it to the drivers attention, report it, post it on TNUK.
Think most of us would add a little extra to this load in the current climate, in fact 20 years ago I would have done more than just one strap over the back…
Edit: Oh alright some of us not ‘most of us’
And i think 20 years ago they wasnt using those bags to transport sand, it was bags ( like cement ) and obviously if a different load looked insecure it would worry most drivers, but i certainly wouldnt grass them up, or report it on T/Net or even bring it to a drivers attention, cos its none of MY business, what a driver wishes to do with his load is his problem, not mine, i would however try and warn a driver if one or two straps were loose, or dangling along the road as some do, but never tell a driver he hasnt got enough straps hasnt roped every hook, each to their own i say, when Freightliners were first introduced to this country, we were carrying them on 27ft trailers ( the max in those days ) the containers sat on the raves, and were chained or roped on each corner, and none ever fell off or moved, a while later we were blessed with 33ft trailers with twist locks.
If it looks wrong…it probably is.

Bagged via a weighing hopper which cuts off 5kg before the max is reached so some wont even be 800kgs but some could be 805kg.
