Lifes is too short ffs, spend your time wisely not doing this crap.

I’m getting a bit p****d off with these so called do gooders. Hows about NO lorries go into these places and let the [zb] starve and have no goods delivered at all!

Please just type the word you wish to put, then let the auto censor do its work.
■■■■■■ off is OK, but the other word isn’t allowed. dd.

Now about drivers not ignoring the wieght limit?

Saw that and wondered if it was you.

So it’s off up the M4 to Chippenham (or even Newbury) if you want to get from Bath to Salisbury is it? You’d even have to go via Bristol unless in the East of town. As for the B-O-A issue, as I’ve stated before, I believe it’s a size rather than weight issue in reality (the streets are quite tight but passable North of the bridge though you wouldn’t want to meet another truck). It’s an 18t MGW limit (except permit holders) so I could do more weight damage to the bridge in a fully-loaded 18t rather than an empty artic though I would be legal.

He said: “It does look as if things are dropping off, which is great, although we think things could get a little mad when the new 18-tonne weight restriction comes into force on Bath’s Cleveland Bridge next year.”

Maybe we could kill two birds with one stone, by dropping them off the bridge onto itinerant lorryists :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s not the weight limit in Bath that the story’s about. It’s the weight limit in Bradford on Avon which has been in force for years and is there for a very good reason. It’s well signposted before you get to the town, and if you can’t find a way around it then you need to go and buy a map.

Anyone fancy joining? bradfordonavon.com/archives/2467

So its only an “except for access” weight limit, proves its nothing to do with damage , its all about nimbyism.

I love one of the comments that was made,

i think it’s nice that some of the lorry watchers are so attached to their high vis coats that they even wear them to the Xmas do

There is a 2 tonne bridge in Wansford village, and when the A1 is closed due to a crash northbound, i will see arctic’s trying there luck and going over it. Now, I know just by looking at the vehicle it is going to be to heavy to be going over the bridge.

Now how much will an arctic weigh if it was empty? I bet it will weigh less then 17.5t. So in fact, i bet some of the lorries aren’t breaking any law at all!

Weight limits are posted as MGW - stands for maximum gross weight. So it doesn’t matter if the artic is loaded or not, it’s still breaking the law.

You might think that the law is wrong: in which case you could write to the Highway Authority, explain why and get them to modify the Traffic Regulation Order. But the fact of the matter is that the bridge and the roads approaching it are not capable of handling anything more than a very small number of heavy vehicle movements a day.

How can he be breaking anything if the truck is under the weight that has been advised by the road sign?. Also, if the bridge cannot handle the daily weight of vehicles going over then there should be a diversion in place.

Thats the point i am making also

There is: they are diverting trucks (except those that need to access BoA) away from the bridge. That’s the purpose of the TRO.

The issue isn’t just the bridge…the roads approaching it are not really suitable for 2 artics to pass on either.

What’s really needed is a relief road to route N - S transit traffic away from BoA and Bath.

The street layout in BoA is unsuitable for trucks and can’t be changed. the topography of Bath (it’s in a bowl and subject to temperature inversions like a mini version of Los Angeles) means that air pollution is a real problem there.

However I personally do not think that there should be a TRO in Bath until a relief road is built…perhaps a continuation of the Batheaston bypass.

To quote the Mayor at their little tea party “And to nick one with us all together was great fun.”

Sad, how very, very sad.

Spot on there i would say.

That would depend entirely whether the weight limit was a gross or axle weight limit. Weight restrictions apply to a vehicles plated weight, not the actual weight at any given time. Therefore if an empty artic which tares at 15 tonnes but is plated to 40 tonnes goes past a 20 tonne limit the driver has broken the law.

I don’t think Mickey’s grasped this yet.

If the posted weight limit is MGW, that stands for Maximum Gross Weight…which isn’t what the vehicle weighs at the time it drives over the bridge, but its maximum allowable weight.

If he’s unlucky, it will be explained to him in court.

isnt Mickeyblue a plastic copper anyway?

Then he should be doubly careful about spouting off about the law.

I don’t think “I read it on the internet” is much of a defence in court.

Bunch of sad people who would soon moan if lorries did not bring their christmas food! GET A LIFE!!!
Put a lorry ban on them and watch them beg for a delivery!!!

As you can see i don’t deal with the ‘Traffic’ side of things in my job

Loads. The list will go on, but lets get back on topic rather then talk about what i do on a daily basis

I’ve been doing a bit of research on this and to ‘GasGas’, and by the way welcome to TNUK, i am slowly getting the grasp of it, as you say.

All i am going to say is wouldn’t it be better to lower the weight limit?
