There is no need to post anything to renew a tachograph card. Before it expires you get a reminder letter.
You simply phone DVLA with your payment card details and they issue a new one.
The only time you ever need to return a tacho card to the DVLA is if it is faulty to prove this, otherwise they will charge you the cost as a lost or damaged card.
Thanks Glen, I’ll wait for the letter then. My card expires in March so I’m guessing it will land on the doorstep sometime soon.

DVLA do sign for letters - I pretty much send all mine via this method.
getting compensation out of royal mail isn’t gonna happen, I sent some golf clubs last year insured and via what supposed to cover the cost of the clubs, they went missing and my compensation was a book of stamps!
hence any parcel I send now isn’t via RM.

All the dvla offices closed a few years ago, it’s now a “non face to face organisation” so I assume using that statement even Swansea don’t have a public desk?
DVLA do have a public desk .
If you post to them your application goes straight to bottom of pile . which this time last year was 1 month deep .
If you go to swansea the ■■■■ will check your application and process it . she will send the request to printers and it will be done next day !
Get on your bikes and go to swansea . you can stay overnight in a B&B next to prison on seafront for £25 .
When i was in similar position to OP last year ( lic expired 31/12) due to dr messing up form , i went to DVLA via bike and train and my licence got home before i did .

Sorry, the photo expired and therefore the card and digi card both expired.
I sent them back signed for first class about three weeks ago. DVLA have not received, Royal Mail say it hasn’t been delivered as it’s not signed for. DVLA tell me they sign for everything.
I can’t work without a digi card!
It could well have been delivered, but caught up in the Xmas/New Year backlog.
I sent a letter recorded to the bank on the 31st, tracking system said it still hadn’t been delivered when I got my reply in the post 3 days ago.
