That Volvo 86 behind looks like Colin Bateman’s.Hi “Robroy” ,
I thought the same as you about the Volvo F 86.However , on closer inspection , the pictured Volvo bears the name
Solway ........
. Colins had the name
Happy Wanderer. Also , Colin
s Volvo had the later-style plastic front grille.Hope this helps,…but who had a Volvo F 86 with the name prefix
Solway
?Cheers , cattle wagon man.
Hi “Robroy” ,
Errrrr,…I believe that I owe you an apology , mate !
I have just found a photograph of the Volvo F 86 “Solway ********” , and it was owned by Colin Bateman !!
Although the photo is blurred , I think it is named “Solway Roamer” , I could not remember this earlier L
reg. Volvo ,
thinking that he only owned the (later) one.
I hope this hiccup has not caused you to think you were losing your mind .
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

ROBSONS ROADTRAIN
fworrrhhhh , memories used to get this motor nearly everytime mine went in for service or inspection , had its day by then i guess , hence it being spare , i only had a 2300 daf border warrior so to get this was errrrrhhhhhhh , lets say hated them both ,had the braking efficiency of an alabhama tic .so mr willie storey me old sparra , if ya out there yep the feelings were right , all the s***e ended up in the the north east , well not as bad as that really , lets rephrase that , i got the crap , until i was acepted as then i was a young driver .,no hard feelings intended . some decent tackle eventually came to birtley , it was too late , finito , redundant , shame eh .used to have borders saracen , then border bandit , last one i had was border sceptre … wait for it … a daf 95 never knew where she ended up , could ov been alloa , carlisle , castleford , flitwick , any where for that matter , the s40 foden by the way was called border castle and swiftly re named border eagle , think a tall fella by the name of geordie graham had it , maybe wrong like , regards jon , ps heres one of my baby at baileston ye old border bandit

Aye jonnyA The trims that were on Border Eagle were not the normal Foden ones they were the large ones like the coaches had. Eddie.
hello johnny A… how ya doin.? just browsing around and saw your post .you been busy postin some pictures i can see …i spent hours looking at those pictures you gave me and can say i think we spent most of our youth in or around those motors washing polishing and painting most of them

I hope I don’t open up a can of worms regarding the sheeting of the load! This shot should have been placed on the “sheeting and roping” thread in order to receive well crafted comments

Aye it’s a reet canny excuse “jonnyA”,parked on what looks like a Motorway Services eh! I believe that once UG took Robsons over in 1979/80 ? their standards with regard to roping and sheeting declined considerably.Having become a subsiduary of a large manufacturer a lot of pride disappeared and the writing was firmly on the wall even though the pretence of the old firm was kept going for a while.I can speak from personal experience having had the misfortune to become involved with the WRM Group and having to witness a similar demise of Bewick Transport.Hard to explain unless you have experienced it but a fact never-the-less. Cheers Bewick.

Hi bewick , it hurts big time to say the least , I worked for robsons frm 1984 to 1990 until I was a casualty of the bunzl meltdown , used to see sum ov ya lads at leeds quite a bit , think it was reid pckaging , opp the tetley factory , obviously ours was tbm stuff , always helped folding sheets , drivers seemed more together then …all the best jon
