Hi I am/was a transport supervisor for the last 8 years the previous 12 years I was a driver
regarding the loading etc the last truck back to Inverness loads all the empty trollies on to the truck which does round Inverness leaving the Wick/Thurso truck empty. The the artic then crossloads the Wick load the goes away to supply a third party who deliver all the remote customers and then returns to load the other truck using the space created to load empties before loading the milk for Inverness run
Most of the Whitburn trucks went to Glasgow and all ours which were all 62 plates went to Altens depot replacing some of their older vehicles which all the remaining Keith drivers including myself convoyed them down to Bellshill much fun lol

Thanks for the reply : You’ve done your service then. Ive been with Wisemans for nearly 3 years, 1 year as a Chill operative then passed my class 2 and now on the rounds.

Very interesting how they work and get the milk around up the very far north.

Must have been fun done one trip from our depot in the west midlands to Kilbride before for new trucks, very long journey.

Do you have any photos you could share would love to see from the north of the border

Oh i see, hopefully haven’t heard much about any progress on the place, we are all trunking from manchester.

Pay is great in my opinion , all depends on the following

  1. Shift you work (Nights is more money than working days)
  2. If you work weekends (Saturday is time & a half all day and sunday is double time all day)
  3. How many hours you put in, basic hours are 40-48 hours and you can clear good money but if you get held up you could look at doing a 60 hour week which will clear you top line money

But James you forgot to mention the WTD that Wisemen love.

If you work over 48 hours a week average in 26 weeks you may find yourself out of pocket with a coupe of unpaid days off so your WTD fall in to line within the 26th week.

Hahahah yeah and that offcourse. I had quite a few hours in the “bank” so wasn’t one of the ones who had too take WTL, the period ended or is ending soon isn’t it ?

not there no more, but I have a feeling it is lol

Hi James hourly rate payed o/t after48hrs dark money payed between 8pm to6am extra for sat Sundays work 234 a year not inc holidays or bank holidays can work rest days overtime just short of 30 k before o/t company pension and share schemes over all not a bad package

39 hours basic pay, time and a half after
Saturday time and a half
Sunday double time
Bank holidays double time + 8 hours
Unsociable hours 18.00-04.00 £2.08
My opinion with WTL is you have already been payed for the hours your are over at time and a half so if you average it out your not losing out + I like the occasional extra day off
Worked there for over 9 years and it’s the longest I’ve spent with any firm so can’t be that bad

100% agree with the highlighted, you get people moaning saying there having a day of for nothing and losing a days pay etc when you have already been paid it and if it was overtime it would have been paid at time and half.

I think there a great company to work for, great bunch of people and made many friends there.

Nice

Better than that volvo FL6 you used to drive that trucks is still in the yard with various parts missing of it… It still had the plastic seat covers on it when you got it SF05NVW :grimacing:

Indeed it did! Pride of the rigid fleet at the time

I can think of many worse companies of their size to work for…

I enjoyed my stay with them.

The last Wiseman vehicles I drove before being made redundant
Done as a favour for Aberdeen Depot
The old truck was originally used at Keith before being superseded by a 12 tonner

Great photos ronnie

Put the manual gearbox and smooth drive from the FE’s into the Scania’s cabs and Wisemans would have some fine rigids.

Here’s a few taken in and around Sanquhar on the A76. Eddie.
