I’ve been offered numerous Renaults recently,520 tag with leather seats and durabrights 66 reg 200,000 ks was one for £18,000 .

Hope the leather seat isn’t just the bog standard one with a leather instead of fabric as it’s horrifically uncomfortable.

I’ve got the regular 460 T range and wish I’d got another Stralis really.

No I have the Fabric seat ( looks like mesh down the sides ). Comfortable for me. To be honest I would have preferred a Volvo if money was know object. But as an owner operator, I need just a reliable vehicle that earns me the same as a Volvo but at a fraction of the cost. Having operated this Renault since 2016 it has more than paid its way. And I will replace it with Another next year. Probably go for a 480 13litre if I can get one for the right price.
Renault dealers have been very good in my opinion, and that is another reason why I will stick with them great customer service and a very under rated Truck ( Ugly Betty does come to mind ).

It’s great to see a sensible report for once,I notice a culture on vehicle reports that almost tells us “I can’t really anything wrong with a particular make or model but give me an hour and I’ll think or make up a few complaints” school of motoring.!!!

My usual pony is a Volvo FH 4 500 HP but last month I had one of our 2 Renaults, T High Comfort 480HP for a week.

The first half day I just kept summing it up as not quiet a Volvo, but more of a good Chinese copy.

At the end of the day I was more open minded and from day 2 on I was very impressed and from a drivers point of view it has pros and cons.

Although on air all round (4x2) the Renault is not as smooth as a similar Volvo and I couldn’t adjust the steering wheel down toward my lap as much as I like but plenty comfortable position all the same.

A very comfortable driving position but a slightly larger blind spot that the Volvo.

It appeared to me that each time they raised the cab they just added another row of lockers with finally too many lockers most of which are too small. Should have just put a few proper sized lockers In the T High rather than looking like sorting office on the mail train.

The gearbox was superb and I much preferred the changer on the column and much more intuitive system when in manual or switching between manual and auto. Double collar a bit fiddly initially but I guess it would become natural after more than a week.

Stoneridge rather than Siemens tacho and a great seat with cooling fans that worked.

An independent night cooler fitted on back of cab which worked much better that any Volvo system although not the quietest from the bunk and it didn’t eat battery power although she had dual battery system fitted.

What really impressed me was the gearbox retarder. It could put the bumper into the tar, much stronger than the Volvo equivalent. I would take this retarder before another 50 Hp any day if I was doing a lot of heavy mountain work.
Likewise the controller for it was much better designed than the Volvo and you were never left looking at wipers sweeping past rather than braking when a in a rush or whatever.

The split top bunk for storage was too complicated imo but it had a better reading light over steering wheel for reading papers and maps.

The cruise control is more complicated and sophisticated on the Renault but once you “get it” it is a fantastic piece of kit, much better than Volvo.

Boss says Renault is excellent on fuel and reliability but some parts can be very expensive as the Renault tool will not fire up the spurious versions however I have heard of guys using the Volvo tool to fire up a spurious alternator (iirc) on the Renault.

Overall a superb truck from a drivers point of view with a big high cab to live and work in.

Great info

Thanks for the information shared.

What about the reliability from 400k to 1m are there any known things that go wrong with them?
